It can be caused by many failed components as shown in my picrues here:

Look for bad caps first since it is easy to do.

Describe your (VL1916) 19" LCD

Did you try this monitor with another PC and already verify that the VGA cable is OK.
Common problem with Princeton monitors are due to bad DC filter capacitors in the power supply board, see example here:

My Princeton monitor will show the normal screen for about one second when I push the power button, but then immediately goes off (screen is black). If I push the power button off, and then back on it does...

It more likely to have the same failure as other Princeton monitors here.
Most common failure in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed PRINCETON monitors to get some ideas what goes wrong: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

The monitor shuts off. Turning the power off

the monitor is going into power saving mode ... it can happen if it is not receiving any signal from the pc ( pc is not running or booted properly, bad video cable connection monitor to pc) or the pc is itself in suspend/standby mode.

Princeton VL173 scrren blank

Sounds like the monitor took a power surge. Monitor is probably bad but try hooking up the power to the monitor on a different power outlet and see if it turns on, if not then the monitor is bad and would need to be replaced.

Try this! Copied right from the Princeton Graphics support pages. (bless their hearts....'course it wasn't "real" easy to find; it was posted for a different monitor for a different problem... but it seems to work for different monitors... Mine's an LCD19D ... and no, it wasn't posted for my monitor either.)

Your EPROM needs to be reset. To accomplish this please
