Question about Whirlpool ED5FHAXV (253 cu ft) Side by Side Refrigerator

Open Question

Flapper door in ice chute would jam closed preventing ice from dispensing or jam open and cause water to leak from ice maker. On inspection a small piece of grey plastic and an U shaped spring fell out. I have dismantled the area around the chute but cannot disconnect the circuit board as the single connector seems to be permanently fixed. Question is how to disconnect the board and what parts do I neeed? TIA

GE Refridge GSH25JFXBB Ice but no water

This is solution to frozen water 'plug' preventing water dispense but ice maker still making ice. I first tried a suggested fix from this site to just leave dispenser light on overnight. I added some aluminum foil sealed over the module with a little tape to hold in heat. By morning still no water dispensed BUT I escalated the suggested fix by 1.) placing a large mug of boiling water in the compartment behind the aluminum foil 'cover' heat seal and 2.) added a small bean bag heating/cooling pad [heated in microwave] to the ice chute in the door from the freezer side. After one change out of the two 'heat sources' (about 30 min)...viola! Water dispensing again; proving it was an ice plug in the water dispenser. NOTE: When first adding the heating bag to the ice chute in the door, I found that a good bit of frost had formed at the top of the ice chute, so it appears this problem arose when someone (maybe even me) didn't close the freezer door completely due to overcrowding in that section of the freezer pushing against the freezer section door.

there's a solenoid that opens and closes the shute or the flapper.the part number is WR62X10055 and it's around 25 dollars.check around the plastic frame that holds this section of the dispenser in place,i'm pretty sure the frame pops off,you might need a putty knife or thin screw driver to pop it off, then you can get at the rest of the parts to change out the solenoid.it's self explanatory and easy to change it out once you pop off the outside frame piece

WATER DRIPPING IN DISPENSER TRAY DUE TO ICE MELTING AT FRONT OF DISPENSER

Hi Don,

Typically this occurs when the dispenser door does not close all the way.

The dispenser door is located in the freezer door in the chute that the ice dispenses down.

With the freezer door open shine a light up from the outside and look down into the door from the inside. If you see light around the door flapper, you will need to replace the dispenser door, if there is a large gap between the dispenser door and the chute you will need to replace the mechanism that controls the door.

Getting to the more serious water leak problem, it will be likely caused by one of two problems. the first, more common problem, is the solenoid for the icemaker valve is likely stuck open. sometimes particles in the water will literally prevent the solenoid from closing, like jamming a stone between a piston inside an engine cylinder, causing your water to overfill your icemaker, fill up the bucket, and pour through the flapping door that you also have problems with. the second possible problem, is your icemaker itself has stopped, or to be more precise, the motor has ceased up, and it happened to stop at the point in the icemaker cycle when it calls for water. You can check to see if the valve is the problem, by removing the icemaker entirely from the freezer, its held on by 3 screws, or possibly one screw and two metal or plastic clips, also unplug the icemaker from where it connects electrically. Assuming you have the water to fridge turned off presently, turn the water back on, and see if water comes through the fill tube. If it does, the valve is your problem, I suggest replacing both the primary and secondary valves. 12001892, 61005626 are the two part numbers.
If water is not coming out of the fill tube, take a look at your icemaker. Look at the icemaker as it was when mounted, and inspect the center ejector shaft, it runs down the middle top of the icemaker, and has 11 fingers on it, it is what rotates around to eject cubes. Is it in the "home" position, i .e. the position it sits while water freezes. The home position, when looking at the ice maker in its normal orientation, is when the ejector shaft teeth are pointing at 2:00. If the teeth are in any other position, either the ice maker was disconnected during its cycle, or the motor has stopped. To be certain, with the water remaining off, reconnect the ice maker, pour about 8 oz of water in the ice maker, if after 24 hours there is no ice ejected, then you have a bad ice maker. part # D7824706Q

In regards to your flapper door problem. since the path of water went through the door dispenser, its possible you may need to replace electric panel for dispenser. An inconvenient fix is to unplug the connection for the dispenser, located either at the top, under hinge cover, or at the bottom, after removing toe plate.

Will not release ice and makes crushed ice, even when on cubed.

I believe in your case the ice maker part number WR30X10093 being electronic with the control board in the front is the problem. I think the control board behind the front cover of the ice maker may have corrosion and causing the ice maker to malfunction. You can try disconnecting the set of wires to the coil on the water control valve and see if the water stops or turn off the ice maker first and try disconnecting the coil wires later. It has to be the control board or the water control valve part number WR57X10032

Ice Jam in Chute - Whirlpool IDI SxS

first check would be to see if the flapper door is closing all the way in the dispenser area. best way is to remove the ice bucket and shine a flashlight from the front up into the disp door area and look for light around the door from inside the chute.

another check would be to make sure the door delay mechanism is connected an not allowing the dispenser door to close to fast trapping a cubes in the door and causing an air leak in the chute..

Keep in mind if you use alot of crushed ice frost build up is faster than with just cubed.
