Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I bought my HP Pavilion dv5 about 3 months ago. On the keypad you have to forcefully push it down if you don't use it within a period of time and the mouse pointer works after that. I was wondering if I should send the laptop back or have some pointers on how to help fix it.

I have an HP dv5 as well, for about 2 years now. After about a year, I started having problems with the mouse keypad. The left button would work intermittently. I eventually figured out that these mouse buttons aren't designed for heavy use. It's best to use an external mouse. I ended up buying a replacement part off of eBay and installing it (which was a major pain--you have to take apart most of the laptop to get it installed). I'm not sure if the problem you have is related. Was there any impact to the laptop at all that might have loosened something up inside?

I have a brand new (bought yesterday) HP Pavilion g6 laptop. Today it is reporting a hard disk problem. However, everything seems to work. Am I headed for trouble?

I don't recomend purchasing an HP to anyone because this is all too common. My father in law purchased a 17" HP Pavilion and opened it for the first time from the corner instead of the middle and the LCD cracked and broke. He didn't purchase a warantee with it and the cost of the LCD and Labor would have been half of what he originally bought it for.

Did you purchase a warantee with it? According to HP's website they have a limited warantee. This is an excerpt:

HP guarantees that the HP Hardware Products that you have purchased or leased from HP are free from defects in materials or workmanship under normal use during the Limited Warranty Period. The Limited Warranty Period starts on the date of purchase or lease from HP. Your dated sales or delivery receipt, showing the date of purchase or lease of the product, is your proof of the purchase or lease date. You may be required to provide proof of purchase or lease as a condition of receiving warranty service. You are entitled to hardware warranty service according to the terms and conditions of this document if a repair to your HP Hardware Product is required within the Limited Warranty Period.

During the Limited Warranty Period, HP will, at its discretion, repair or replace any defective component. All component parts or hardware products removed under this Limited Warranty become the property of HP. In the unlikely event that your HP Hardware Product has recurring failures, HP, at its sole discretion, may elect to provide you with (a) a replacement unit of HP's choosing that is the same or equivalent to your HP Hardware Product in performance or (b) to give you a refund of your purchase price or lease payments (less interest) instead of a replacement. This is your exclusive remedy for defective products.

It is mandatory that the unit product number and serial number be made available when requesting a warranty service event. Failure to do so may result in the event being deemed out of warranty by HP or, HP's Authorised Service Providers, and therefore chargeable to the requester.

I would return it and get a different one anyway. You should be able to use the reciept as the proof of purchase.

A hard disk problem can happen with any new computer from any company, sometimes they slip through the cracks.

As a recomendation I would add that you'll get a better bang for your buck if you were to purchase a Dell (warantee is better and more inclusive) or even a Macintosh. For my father in law, he bought a Macbook (laptop) and installed bootcamp which allowed him to install the Windows 7 operating system and now he only runs Windows 7. It works really well for him.

I hope this helps!

I purchased hp pavilion dv6-1337tx lapi over 1 year ago. now from 6 to 17 days i noticed that battery is not charging properly..... when lapi is on battery it just go shut down within 10-15 minutes. and...

REplace the battery. It sounds as if it is exhausted.
Do you leave it chargeing all of the time you use the laptop? If you do, that is why it is exhausted. Batteries like to be used and drained from time to time.
Unfortunately, they don't recover.

I have two of them. Bought within 1 month of each other from Best Buy almost two years ago. Both have the fan problem. Fan is loud works all the time laptop gets very hot shuts off. My son called hp and...

It's because of the poor cooling design. The Cooling Tube, and Heatsink.

Processor overheats, and turns off.

Also causes the Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS, GPU, to lift up out of it's BGA , on the motherboard.

[GPU
Graphics Processing Unit.

BGA (Ball Grid Array)

Solution?

Not recommended by me, but this is someones approach, which part of it helps the cooling system with the Processor.

I bought HP Pavilion dv5 6 months ago and fan not working

Your cooling fan sounds to have went out, causing it to overheat and shut down.It also could be something in the fan stopping it from turning.Try cleaning it or blowing it out with it off.But it mostly sounds to have went out.

Best Not to touch it IF its under warranty . if it were not under warranty u could maybe open it up and check the solder joint on the speaker to the motherboard.

The ac adapter connector probably needs to be re-soldered or replaced. You will have to have it serviced.
