Question about LG LRBN20510WW Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Top refrigerator is not working, freezer is OK. When I unplug then plug it in again the indicator light for the refrigerator comes on but after a few minutes goes off, During the ime it is on there is a very low sound similar to a dull clicking. I checked to see if there was ice blocking the vents in the freezer area but there was none.

Your refrigerator gets its cold air from the freezer by way of a fan that transfers air past the freezer coils to the refrigerator. If the fan isn't working the refrigerator will not get cold. I your coils in the freezer are freezing up this will also stop the flow of air to the refrigerator. The first thing to check is the fan.

It definitely sounds like it has failed or is failing at least..

Thanks, let me know if you have any questions or concerns, just reply to my answer here and I will be right back with you.

The fan is extremely difficult to get to on this model. You need to disassemble the back of the fridge to gain access to it. I do not recommend attempting this unless you are an appliance repair person by trade. I am quite sure this is what has failed though, the evaporator fan motor is the culprit, it has most likely failed. You can get an accurate quote from an appliance repair person in your area with this information that way they do not need to spend time diagnosing the issue which will save you a good deal of money.

I would not attempt to do this on your own though, you could easily damage the fridge further and then it would be exponentially more expensive to fix.

Let me know what you think there, sorry about the delay.

Sounds like a control board issue. When you unplug the unit your are resetting the control board. Then after a while one of the relays on the board is getting stuck again.

The auto defrost heat element is not working. When the ice buildup clogs the airflow the unit stops cooling. Once you unplug it and give it a chance to melt it works again. You need to have the defrost unit replaced.

OK, it sounds like you have a defrost problem. When left unplugged for a few days the frost melted off the evaporator (the cooling coils behind the freezer wall) but after you ran it again, the coils blocked the air flow again, usually happens after a week or so, depending on # of door openings, humidity in home, etc. Most likely you have a burnt out defrost heater.

LG refrigerator not working

Check and clean the condenser. Unplugging the system allows it to cool off. when you plug it back in it will cool until the heat rebuilds if not rejected through the condenser. Make sure the condenser fan comes on when the compressor runs. A faulty fan motor will cause the same type of problem.
