Question about AT&T TL74108 5.8 GHz Quad 1-Line Corded / Cordless Phone

Open Question

I have a TL74108 5.8 GHz digital Corded/Cordless Answering system. The unit does not ring (Base or Hand unit) when incoming calls are placed to the line it attached to. The Ringer is on, the volume is up 100% (and rings when adjusted) the line is a good line since I have no trouble with an alternate line. I can change the ring tone, however, the line still does not ring

You may need to reset the Telephone Answering System. Complete the following steps to reset the Telephone Answering System:
Step 1: Disconnect the power to the telephone base.

Step 2: Wait a few minutes and then reconnect the power to the telephone base and charger.

Step 3: Set the day and time.

You may need to set the main handset to synchronize with the base unit plugged into the telephone wall jack and assign special configuration numbers to the other handsets in order to properly identify each one within a specified location. One handset left in the turned on mode may make it impossible to place calls with the any of the other handsets. This will continue until either the battery dies or fails on the handset or the phone is switched off and replaced in its charger for charging again. Synchronize the main handset by pressing the MENU button on the handset, then pressing the down button IN order to select the number you wish to assign to that handset. Repeating this process if you have already done so will greatly decrease the level of errors experienced with panasonic phones MORE USEFUL INFORMATION FOR ALL YOUR ELECTRONICS When troubleshooting these units, there are always several variables to consider. First check to see what last occurred with the unit such as did the children play video games, did the electricity go out due to bad weather. You may see that there are many possibilities but let's focus on what occurred last to the unit. Once we determine what happened last, we may isolate the actual cause of the problem. The actual cause may be associated with projection issues, older versions (Picture tube), interference from devices located nearby, and even a radio turned on and located really close to your unit. This is normally known as electromagnetic interference to electronics and is very common with the error you have provided today. Please continue to look for anything EXTERNAL to the unit before looking at the internal components. I have been working on these a long time so feel free to follow up with me.

Answering Machine Problem

You have not configured the phone. If you do not set the number of rings before switching to the answering machine, the phone rings ten times then goes to the answering machine.

Phone does not ring

Time to get new phones. You incoming wires are not operating on the base of the phone. It is called the 'ring-side' or 'red' wire. Unless you know where the break is, you cannot fix it. because it happens on all the phones....it has to be broken in the base that serves them all. This isolation is furthered by the fact that a corded phone works fine on incoming calls, so it is not in the line to the building, broken on the ring side that is. Happy phone hunting!

My aswering machine won't allow people to leave a message

There are usually two reasons for this if the machine is on. 1) The memory is full. In that case, delete some messages. 2) The unit is set to Announce Only. This may be the default if you haven't set a personal greeting.

Please add a comment with the model of your machine for additional information on how to change the incoming message options.

(Make sure that your phone/phone line are receiving calls. (Check for dial tone, try calling the number).)

For some older phones and answering systems, the Announce/Number of Rings before picking up was set by a switch on the back or the side of the base. Most newer phones let you set this in the Menu. Try under General Settings > Answering System or an Answering System menu item. (Again without knowing the model, I can't be absolutely sure of the menu and sub-menu lists.)

I hope this helps.

most multi-phone systems require you to dock the phone in the main cradle to sync it up with the system. not sure if you tried this already but it's pretty simple to do. just insert handswt 1 into the main base (answering machine) then remove it and plug the second hand set into the main base. you also have to keep in mind thatr when you answer the cakk with say handset one the only way you can use the second handset is by transferring the call. if your phones handsets are equipt with a transfer button then that may the problem

Uniden 5.8Ghz phone.

You need to reset the main base unit. Unplug the power from the back of the base. While the power is disconnected, press and hold the delete key while reconnecting the power. Wait for a long beep tone. When the display shows 88 or P, press play button one time. If you have a phone without an answering machine, disconnect the power from the back of the base, press and hold find hs button while reconnecting power.

For the handset, you can use the menu button to check the HS Setup settings. For the answering machine, you may have pressed the side button that turns it off. It would say "off" on the lcd if you did that. According to the manual (I just bought one of these).
