Question about Sylvania 6842THG 42 in. Plasma HDTV

1 Answer

We recently experienced a power outage and our Plasma TV did not come back on afterwards. I have read about similar problems but we do not have a red led. I have removed the back panel and have checked every fuse I could see (5) total. The power supply board is readily available and reasonably pricedand looks easy enough to replace but not sure if it is the actual problem or not. Any ideas as to how to troubleshoot the board or should I be looking for something else. TV just turned 4 years old and has had minimal use and is/was in excellent condition and hate to dump it if it is something I could possibly fix myself. TKS

The problem with these sets is you have to gamble.

If power outage, it is most likely on the power supply board-------only way to confirm this is test voltages to see if are there or not, do you follow me?

Fuses can look good but also need to be "tested".

Let me know if I can help, I am here to help.

This is exactly the same problem I am having. Initially the power light came on (no picture or sound), blinked a few times, then went to the red standby light. I changed the power board to a brand new one that there was no change whatsoever.

Unfortunately, I fiddled some more with it and now I cant even get it to power on (obviously missed something). Aside from that, the new power board didnt fix the problem and all fuses tested fine. What can I try next?

Power interruption and now my plug,n go seems to be frozen. Cannot set time or clear anything. Screen reads 9.80 or something close

I had a similar problem with my Bosch wall oven after a recent power outage-restart-outage-restart cycle that lasted only about thirty seconds altogether. The difference would be in that while I could reset all the things like day, date, time, etc., the oven would arbitrarily go off on its own and make up the day, time, date, year, etc., with no apparent correspondance to reality. Here's what I did: I completely shut down the oven at its outside breaker (you will need to do whatever it takes to remove the power from the 'plug-n-go'). I waited five or ten minutes before turning the power back on and resetting the various items. Two days have passed and there have been no more mind-of-its-own excursions into another time zone. Problem solved, unless/until another power outage cycle comes along. Hope this helps, or at least gives you an idea about where to start.

Maxent 32" power problem

I had a similar problem with my Daytek LCD TV after a power outage.

A quick read of the manual showed how to do a reset on power up.

That solved my problem and everything worked okay after that.

I have a 42" lcd Vizio TV. My screen is completely black but you can see there is light in the back of the set. I cannot access the menu nor can I turn off the power without unplugging the unit. What do...

If its a plasma tv there's not light behind the display panel, I was a bit confused when I read that....LOL Light behind the tv will only happen if its an LCD tv because it uses CCFL's to illuminate the LCD panel. Plasma displays generate their own light from the plasma pixels.

Anyway,

If its an LCD tv then either the inverter, power, or time control circuits need to be serviced or replaced. If its a plasma tv then your X or Y sustain, or power circuits need to be serviced or replaced. The interface can cause a similar problem also but only with plasma tv.....
