Question about Seagate (ST3160827AS) 160 GB Hard Drive

Seagate 160 gb capacity problem

Dear sir i have seagate 160gb sata hard disk. in bios it shows 160 gb but in actual it gives only 152gb. i have tried to dm it but no dm matches it. then i tried ontrack to it. it shows 160 gb. but after it when i tried install windows xp it shows only 152 gb. how can i make it full 160 gb. pls solve my problem. & mail me

The harddrive size is in another measurement system and the actual size of the drive is exactly what you are seeing 152.

here you can see how my disks show
Seagate 160 gb capacity problem - 894a905.jpg 160GB disk - 152,66GB
1000GB disk - 931.51GB

that is correct.

the hard drive might be damaged bad sectors
the operating sytem will take/use a certain ammount of space onyour hard drive
click start right click on my computer you should see your drive usually C: select properties click tools check now tick both boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery on any bad sectors or you could tick one box and wait until its finished then return and tick the other box
then select check now start should schedule this task when restart

do not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage your computer
then defragment your hard drive,0.aspx when you download partition magic you will have the option to make rescue to disks to boot from make these disks then change your first boot device your to floppy drive this will give you options to partition then partition only the good sectors of your hard drive and install an operating system to the good partition

click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to recovery any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive there are many ways of running the chkdsk utility

The hard disk not detect in my compter

Hi Good day!! try to re-plug the sata cable and power adaptor of your hard disk and see if it is detected if not try to replace the sata cable. please reply if you have a question i will help you more.

I bought gb seagate Hard disk i am not able to formate from DM or fdisk utility, & from xp i lost 24 gb space then what can i do.

have you tried
click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will automatically fix any corrupt files and scan for bad sectors and recover on your hard drive then defragment your hard drive

Seagate satat error

the firmware is damaged,sir,nothing can should go to the dr company to repair your hdd first by using HD Doctor or other tools,it is a typical bug for 7200.11,seagate's big bug

and not show the tha harddisk,but harddisk are showing the bios setup.

System can detect Fujitsu MHY2160BH : 160GB HDD, but cant install

it seems that your computer might have a SATA hard drive which could not be detectable by windows xp, try to install vista it will detect it easily.

otherwise use dm (disk manager) for detection and partition.

Hard disk failure... unable to start

You need to get a new Hard disk. There is no way to get info off the Hard disk that won't turn in because theres probley a short a an element that failed and burned out. Hope this helped. =)

Hard Disk Drive Not Detected

Does your hard drive get detected in the BIOS? If yes then you can recover data by plugging that hard drive as secondary and running a recovery application like Recover My Files.

Check the SATA/RAID controller setting. It could have been set to [Disabled] Refer to your user?s manual for a detailed description on how to enable the onboard SATA/RAID controller by adjusting the jumper or BIOS settings. Regards SparkGap
