Keep losing signal

CONTINUAL DISCONNECTION OF WIRELESS CONNECTION

There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.
1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from brick or concrete walls, mirrors, fish tanks and if possible locate the wireless router higher up.
2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router.
3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply).
4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

Im losong signal every 2 minutes

All you need to do it to change your WiFi broadcasting channel. Open up your router`s setup by entering the default gateway IP, enter username password if prompted ->go to WiFi or Wireless Lan setting and make sure that broadcasting is b/g/n mixed mode, then check what broadcasting channel is selected starting from 1 to 11/13, in case of extreme start or end make in middle like 6 or 7 and in case of any middle number like 6 to 8 make it either 10 or 3. By changing the broadcasting channel shall hopefully stop any interference with other frequencies. Good Luck

I have a DIR 615 Dlink wireless router connected to a Dell computer running XP Pro. Checked for latest firmware, had it. About every 2 or 3 days it will stop broadcasting a signal and I can not logon with...

Ok this might be a bit tricky but it sounds like there is another wireless signal that may be interfering with yours.

Do you have an older cordless phone in the house? If so try and move the cordless base farther away from the wireless router. Even if they are on different floors in your house, if they are located near each other the cordless can interfere with the wireless signal.

The other possibility is that there is signal that is coming from the outside of your location and is causing the interference.

I know that when I had an XP Pro machine (Laptop) it would drop the wireless signal every couple of days or so. I traced my problem to my neighbors cordless phone. he had an old one and it was near the side of my house that my router was on and it was causing me problems so I move my router and the problem went away.

hope this helps

Keeps on dropping connectinon 1st time i had this pronlem relly bad and it wont stop it keeps drroping my conection.

This can be caused by electrical interference, weak signal strength, or other wireless routers/access points broadcasting on the same channel as your wireless router.

You can first access the router setup page and change the wireless channel to the highest value to broadcast stronger signal but if that doesn't correct the problem do a firmware upgrade on your router............

Hello the_great_za,

You are going to have to do some clean-up work. Get a new router, keep the old one because it will come in handy.
Way to configure the new router:
1) configure WEP with the following settings
128 Bit or higher
4 WEP Keys (rotate them monthly)
Set Broadcast SSID to off
Use the long preamble
Set beacon broadcast for a long duration between beacon transmissions.
Get all of your PC together and configure them away from your house only turning everything on when at home.

Now what this will do is eliminate the entry vector, remember he is jumping on your stuff when your are setting it up, don't do this at home do it someplace else. (setting up that is). Then what you need is a LAN side protocol analysis test point to monitor for his presence.

Doing this will scare him off.

Hi! It's ok to disable the wireless broadcast of the router however, it wont stop the router from broadcasting the wireless frequency. It will only hide itself from the people who are trying to connect to a free signal that are available.
