Hey budmrtn, I replaced the transistors, but my local store had bigger ones that needed to be trimmed in order to fit, also the back panel had to be modified, then I resolder all transformers pins, still didn't work, then I replaced the fuse PF 751, problem solved, I did this last Friday, as of today it is still OK. Thanks for your help.

Sure, how do I do that?

Check out the four transistors (c5706/5707) Emitter to Collector (see picture of the transistor in my transistor album for pinout), it should read open circuit (should be checked out off the board). This is common problem. Make sure to inspect the solder joint in on the board, especially around the inverter transformer pins. Make sure the fuse read out less than one Ohm also.

The power light on our model E172FPb Dell monitor is blinking. The screen does not turn on. What could be the problem

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for:
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

The DELL E172FPb LCD Monitor (switch light flicks green)scr black

hi, extremely common problem for dell 17 in monitors. the capacitors and transistors on the power board internally have gone bad. to get repaired, it may cost 40-50 at a shop. i have repaired these in the past and they always come out well for at least 3 more years. may want to find another monitor though. if you would like steps on how to repair, let me know and i will find my old repair threads to give to you.

You need to open it up and inspect the componente inside, look at the fuse and the transistors in the inverter circuits first, also look for sign of over heating on the board, see pictures here for the guide:

Dell E172FPb screen blinking

If you've tested turning the monitor on without the VGA cable and it's still blinking I'd say there's a problem with one of the capacitors on the power supply card on your screen, when you're able to check it would you mind telling me the brand / reference of it ?

Dell Blinking Power Light

Just wanted to say Thank You for the info on this site. I had the same problem as previously posted. When powered up, the monitor showed a fast flash of the desktop and then went black, with the power indicator flashing green. I read the posts, purchased the capacitors and the 4 - 2sc5707 transistors through ebay. I ordered them on the 6th and rec'd them today. I only had one bad capacitor and one transistor that checked bad, but I ordered 5 caps and 4 transistors. When ordering the caps be careful of the height of the caps. I found this to be a problem because I ordered the 50v, 105 degree Panasonic caps that didn't fit with the enclosure attached, so I used the 4 good caps removed previously and replaced the bad one with a 470uf, 50v. 85 degree cap from Rubycon I found among my spare parts. Installed the parts and the monitor is working properly (for the last two hours) so I'm happy for as long as the repair lasts. Thanks again for the info.
