I have the same problem with my 8400F with an iMac running OS X 10.5.3. I get the message "The necessary file could be missing or damaged, or some settings are incorrect. Reinstall the scanner driver. Scanner driver will be closed."

I have deleted all Canon files, rebooted, and reinstalled from the Canon website multiple times to no avail. I tried reinstalling from my original Canon install discs also. I believe the problem started after I upgraded to OS X 10.5.3.

    Any ideas? giogary

If you are using a Mac then this is a common problem, not to worry if your not either.
Just uninstall all the scanner software, reboot and re-install it again, all thats happening is the files for the scanner are shared with the system files and they get over written, its just the way Canon has built and intergrated the files.

The necessary file could be missing or damaged, or the settings are incorrect. reinstall the scanner driver.

You can goto the device manager and select the imaging devices - select your scanner and right click and click update driver.Another method is to visit the Canon website and download the driver. The main thing to keep in mind is to make sure that you uninstall any existing canon driver if present and restart your computer.

When ever i scan my document it is showing an error of scan.msi file is missing

Scan.msi is a standard file for almost all HP scanners and All-In-One machines, this is a common problem. You will need to completely uninstall your scanner then reinstall it, this should replace the missing file.

When entering path for scanning to a file server canon displays "server error"

This is a common error when the scanner is not set up properly with the server. Reinstall all drivers for this scanner. (turn off all anti virus software when reinstalling drivers) and try scanning again after rebooting with new drivers.

The scanner application failled to start because of missed STI.dll operating system is Vista

try reinstalling the scanner driver (right click on the installer) but run it as administrator so that all its files will be allowed by vista, check also if your scanner is compatible with vista
