Grab hold of the two grips on the left and right, left is towards the back and right is towards the front. you will be twisting the pail (right side) from the standard 3oclock position to the 5 oclock position there. the cannister should just fall off the bottom then.

if your meaning the cannister from the wall....
disconnect the pipe going into the side of the machine, unplug the machine remove the 2 low voltage wires from the side and then lift the machine up and off the wall.

Good luck.

How do i replace the hepa filter on a dyson dc18? I removed it and now I cannot put it back on.

It is very simple to change the filter and re-attach the canister. Once you have removed the main canister (the one that has the washable filter) you should see the plastic canister, which houses the Hepa Filter. 1) To make life easy, turn your vacuum around, so you are now looking at the back (where the hose and wand are). 2) Remove the hose and wand as you normally would, if you were going to use them. Just lay it on the floor. 3) Now that they are out of the way, you should see the grey plastic holder, towards the bottom (approx 6 inches above the red release peddle for the vacuum. It is attached to the vacuum with only 2 Phillips-Head screws, and was used to keep the hose in place. 4) Use a screwdriver to remove the screws (one one each side). Once it's removed you should easily beagle to change the Hepa Filter. NOTE: Pay attention to where the 4 inverted latches on the canister are, and pay special attention to the fact that there is an extra latch on the canister, which faces the opposite direction of the others. It is this latch on the canister, which must be located through the back handle of the vacuum, since this was the main latch that was secured by the grey hose piece, which you first removed. 5) To reassemble the canister, line up the clips, especially the one that I just mentioned, and make sure the canister is flush against the base. 6) Now, reattach the hose securing piece that you originally removed, and the Hepa Filter and plastic canister should now be fully secured. 7) Place the hose and wand back into their original position and you should now be ready to vacuum. I hope this was helpful. S.I. Educator

HOW TO REMOVE HOSE COMPLETELY FFROM DYSON DC17 ANIMAL FOR CLEANING

pull up extension wand. remove the wand part by pressing the gray button near the bottom of the wand.
remove canister.
if your looking at the front of the vacuum where the canister was near wher the clear bin of the canister would sit there is a gray push button. it is kind of hidden so you have to keep an eye out for it
but when you find it push it in and pull up on the hose and it will come off the vacuum.

Two questions: seems i sucked something up that i

can u see where the "clog" is?
it may be in the hose or at the entry into the canister.
remove the canister and check... the filter is underneath the canister... mine is yellow.. it just snaps out and back in once it's cleaned. also check there are not strings or long threads, etc. and the top (inside) the canister- and the holes are not clogged.

Good Luck:)

My canister kenmore progressive is not sucking and is sptitting carpet powder dust all over the place. could it be it needs a new hpa filter? if so where on the vacuum would it be located?

Remove the hose from the canister, and turn on the vacuum. Does it produce good air flow into the hose port?. If ok, remove the hose from the sweeper unit and plug the end into the canister. If ok, check the bottom of the sweeper head for plugging of the air passages and inspect the sweeper bar for accumulation of thread, hair, and string. If the first test produced no air flow, then open the canister and remove the bag--turn the vacuum on and check for air flow into the motor. If still nothing, then check the hepa filter which should be near the air output from the canister. Go to: searspartsdirect.com and enter the sears model number from the information plate. The machine's part drawings will appear and select the vacuum case drawing which should display the hepa filter location and also be able to order the filter from the web site. Hope this helps!

I am unable to open the canister to remove the old bag, unclipping the 2 clips on the side does not release the canister. What am I doing wrong?

Overtime the dirt canister can get somewhat stuck. Once you unclip it, you will need to apply some force and pull down. The dirt canister should release.
