Question about Kenmore 25.1 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator with Rotating Dispenser System

1 Answer

How do I get the motor in the ice dispenser out to check it? Does it come out from the inside of the door (under the ice container) or do I need to get the dispenser panel out of the front of the door. I removed the four screws but it doesn't want to come out and I don't want to break it (it is plastic)

If you open the door, where the dispenser motor is, underneath, there is a panel with two screws in it. Take those out,and then remove the four screws holding the motor in.

Icemaker is making ice but will not dispense. continues to accumulate then over time ice in the bottom of the dispenser will freeze

I can think of two possible problems. The ice has frozen together and will not allow the ice screw to push the ice out the dispenser. Or the motor for the ice screw is broken.
1. Shut off icemaker with lever at icemaker
2. Remove ice container (either throw away ice or save in another container).
3. Put back empty ice container.
4. Leave ice maker off for about an hour.
5. After an hour , check if motor is working by trying to dispense ice. You should not expect any ice but you should hear the motor /auger moving.
A) If you do not hear any thing , you need to get your motor replaced.
B) If you hear the motor , mostlikely you had an ice dam which prevented the ice dispense from working..You can turn you icemaker on.

Icemaker is making ice but the ice dispenser is not working

Check the ice storage container. The ice dispenser will not dispense ice until the first supply ice has dropped into the ice storage container.Remove excess ice from the back of the ice container. Make sure ice cubes are not jammed between the ice maker and the back of the ice container.

---------------------

The auger won't engage or turn to dispense ice.Remove the ice bucket and with a hair dryer warm up the inside where the fork is that turns the auger in the bucket and try it and if this does not help then you will have to replace the auger motor ,, chances are the motor is just froze up .--------

If there is nothing jammed then try this./Remove the ice bin out.And then clean the ice bin.

Rotate the auger with your hand.If its hard then there is problem with auger motor. If the auger is not rotating fine then its faulty auger motor or the auger motor is frozen,if you notice ice getting collected there.

---------------

Take a hair dryer and blow hot air on the auger motor for few minutes.Take care you dont blow hot air continuously.

But if that is not helping then disconnect auger motor connecting wire wait for 2 minutes clean the connector and reconnect the connector back and see.If that is not helping at all. Then, replace the auger motor.

Water dispenser works, ice maker makes ice but doe not dispense

Remove the ice bucket/container from inside the freezer compartment. Examine underneath at the front of the container to see if ice cubes are lodged between the metal blades. If cubes are caught in this area, they will prevent ice from dropping into the glass/cup.

Motor does not turn to dispense ice when lever is depressed

The first thing I check is the door switch. As you know if the door is opened the ice chute won't function I would start there. I have an old manual from whirlpool that will give an idea HERE

Ice wont come out the door

Can you tell me if the auger turns and ice is just building up in the ice chute? I need to make sure we are talking about the model FRS6R5EMB so we are all talking about the same thing. The auger may be turning or may not. You can test that by opening the door, pulling the ice container with auger inside out and pressing the light switch in while someone presses dispense ice. You should see the motor turning the auger drive. If that works then we need to focus on the dispenser door if working or not, Let me know Thanks, Sea Breeze

Whirlpool side by side GD27DQXFW01; ice cubes are not dispensing

We will need to check the voltage at the auger motor while depressing the dispense switch. If all the other features work on the dispenser panel while I would consider checking the voltage going to the motor. Some auger motors are in areas where water causes the voltage to be shorted by constant moisture. We will need to remove the panel and simulate what you have done on the outside but this time we need to see if the voltage has been altered or if the auger motor itself is defective. Sea Breeze

Refrigerator making too much ice, not dispensing the ice

You need to replace the dispenser motor.
It is located under the dispensing unit INSIDE the freezer door.
Remove the two screws hold the cover and replace the motor.

Side by side won't dispense ice.

Take the ice container that has the auger inside it and press the door switch in while you press the dispenser. If the auger motor in the back works empty the ice container and see if there may be frozen ice preventing it from turning. If yes then defrost and dry the container and replace. If this does not solve the problem get me your model number for example 213.256489 for Sears and I will help you track the problem down. Sea Breeze

Ice and water dispensers not working

I don't think that you need to replace the hole door unless something is physically wrong with it. Could be a lot of things one is the limit switch (number 14)->

http://www.us1internet.com/GC5SHGXLS00_66388.htm

if for some reason the limit switch is not working properly then the paddle never send the signal to the valve to dispense. The same thing is for the auger motor (the one that dispense Ice).

If you see your dispenser under the paddles and activate the paddles you can see when the paddle touches the limit switch. You should hear a click. Also could be the switch pack (#18 in the drawing) that is short circuited. But this is most complicated to resolve, not impossible, but you need the schematics of the switch pack to check continuity, if you don't know a electrical technician can do the job. Also he can check the harness to check for continuity. The harness inside the door send the signal to the board to actuate the valve or to move the auger motor that send the ice.

Maybe the repair man tought that you need to remove the door because for example... LG foam the harness inside the door but Whirlpool use a conduit in the foaming process and when the door is already foamed they put the harness inside the conduit that is why you don't need to remove the door.

Also could be the valve... your ice maker is making ice?
