Question about Samsung RS2578BB Side by Side Refrigerator

2 Answers

The door on the refrigerator part of our side by side seems to have lost it's magnetic closure. The door will not close tightly and although the temperature is set for 34 degrees, it reads 46 and it is not keeping things cold enough.

We checked it out to see if the door raised when opened. It does. Where the two doors come together, it does visually look like the door on the refrigerator is a little bit lower. We tried a magnet on the door and it doesn't have any pull. Do you think it could be the seal? Just guessing! I will leave the diagnose to the expert!

We have ordered a new gasket. Do you have any tips on installing it. I hope this works.

  • ephelps1 Nov 07, 2010

Thanks. We had to order the gaskets online, so don't expect them until next Thursday or Friday. I see a weekend project! I hope it works. I really like this frig. Can I you let you know? I don't know when this help expires.

Check the hinges for any bends, loosening or other damage. Also check the gasket (door seal) along it's entire length for any spots that may have torn or came loose from the door. Closing the refrigerator door creates a vacuum that helps keep the door closed; thus if it cannot seal it may open. Also check the entire surface of where the door gasket will contact the refrigerator chassis for anything that would disrupt the seal...it should be clean.

The lower hinge on each door may have a door closing cam. It raises the door up ¼ inch when opening and this assist in closing the door. If it's wore out and doesn't work the door may not seal and the gasket can be damaged. Watch the operation of the door to see if it rises up when opened.

Leave the door shut and let the magnetic gasket hold the door in place. Put something between the bottom of the door and the floor to hold it in case it slips.
Remove the bracket holding the pin and hinge assembly taking note of order of removal of parts. Slide new cams on. You probably need two.

If fixing the door doesn't take care of the cooling problem, let me know.

You could need a new door gasket. The gasket should securely hold a dollar bill when you shut the door on it. Clean the gasket and the frame it's supposed to stick to. Will the door close by it's self when partially open.

It should be held by screws. You have to fold the gasket back to see them. There may be metal strips also.

If you can find it , I think it will be here for eternity. You know, for posterity and stuff. Good Luck.

How can i fix fan oven door? magnet doesnt seem to work so heat escapes from the gap.

Check the alignment to see is the door makes a complete closure. If the door sets perfectly, check the hinges on both sides to see if they are tight and make proper connection with the oven opening. I doubt if the door seals using a Magnetic strip, it generally hold fast by spring pressure.

Refrigerator door doesn't seem to be sealing shut...seem to not be closing and therefore running all the time

The door has a magnetic lining which keeps the door tightly shut at all times. Over time this lining can decay (magnetic strenght). I would advise you get it replaced & its not too expensive either.

The refrigerator door side does not shut tightly. The gasket seems to be ok and we leveled the unit. Still not shutting tightly like the freezer side which seems to have a magnetic pull to assist close....

Check bottom hinge cam riser located on bottom hinge the pin that goes inside the door it's plastic it's a 2 piece part 1 part goes over hinge pin and the other goes inside door hole. They get worn and break. If you replace this make sure you get both parts until you do try adj. top door hing to get the door tighter.

We have an Amana side by side. The freezer door

hi. First of all, finding the model number can be a bit of a challenge. here are the places to look:
  • Inside the refrigerator or freezer, on the upper left or right side wall
  • Behind the lower crisper drawer
  • Behind the lower toe kick-plate
  • On the face frame of the refrigerator body

Frigidaire FRT17G4BW9 doors not staying closed

Adjust the front legs of your refrigerator slightly to raise the refrigerator. and and store items on the freezer door shelves to add weight. This is a problem of pneumatics and a testament to how tight newer refrigerators are. When you close the large refrigerator door it compresses the air in the refrigerator compartment. Both compartments are connected by air passages and thus the pressure change is transferred to the freezer causing the freezer door to pop open.

Raising the front of the refrigerator a tiny bit will help both doors close from the 90 degree point, which is desirable. Adding weight to the shelf will just help the process.

An additional aid in self-closure will be to use vegetable oil on a paper towel to wipe down the hinge side face of both door seals. All these maneuvers should aid in causing the door to stay closed and re-close if it should open slightly. Good Luck

Door on refrigerator won't close and stay closed. Seems as if there is no magnetic seal and this just happened all of a sudden. The seal around door is not cracked or old. Freezer side is OK.

You will need to replace the gasket. The gasket seems to have failed and that is where the magnet is. You can try to clean the magnet surface and the door surface with rubbing alcohol but you are most likely going to need to replace the gasket

Door on Monogram ZIR36N won't pull closed and stay shut

The spring is actually a door closure , are the wheels that the bar closure mechanism goes through and attaches to the spring moving freely? It is entirely possible that a bin in the fridge is keeping the door open.

    Freezer Door wont shut

two things i would check. first would be an obstruction in the freezer compartment. ice bin perhaps. second would be the black plastic door cams that are to help close the door. Each door has two and they are at the bottom. one on the actual hinge and one on the bottom of the door itself.
