Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TR96 Camcorder

Open Question

I have a Sony Handycam CCD-TR96. It worked fine the last time it was used, but when I got it out again it's completely dead. It won't even hint at doing anything with either a charged battery or the A/C adapter. I checked the voltage from the A/C adapter, which is about 7.1 Volts; and the connections appear to meet up fine. Is there an internal fuse or something that could be blown? Any suggestions? BTW, there's a tape stuck in the recorder that I cannot eject since there's no power. Thanks.

there are fuses ,but they are small solder in types, all fx series camcorder have a common problem with the rear power board working it's way loose and unplugging itself from the main board. these units have alot of solder connection issue due to sony's use of poor solder back in the earily 90's

SOURCE: Sony Handycam CCD-TR64 cassette door won't close

Common problem with this mechanism. In order to fix the problem you will have to replace part called CHASSIS LS. Expensive repair, probably not worth the effort.

Testimonial: "Thanks. We ended up getting a new camcorder. That Handycam was as old as I am (18 years), so it was time for an upgrade anyway."

You should remove the tape, check it is not full up, or replace it with new tape, I had this problem weeks ago, turned out the write-protect tab on tape had got pushed over to prevent recording.

Lcd screen is blurry on my sony handycam dcr-hc20

This does not sound like a CCD problem yet, but a LCD problem. This would require you to replace the LCD screen. Sounds like the LCD inverter is shot. That is the power supply that is required to back light your LCD.

Before we blame that, you should make sure that all ribbon cables are secure and tight.

Good luck !

It could be that the CCD unit is going bad.  You should take into a camera shop to get a professional look at it.  Usually that type of taping is caused from a bad CCD.

there are two possible problem of your camera...one check the iris of the camera if it is opening, you will see it went you look inside the lens when you turn on camera mode....and if you see that the iris is opening...the second may be the ccd image sensor......if that is the problem you have no choice but to go the sony service for replacing the ccd image sensor...
