Question about Maytag Washing Machines

Open Question

I have a maytag LAT9706AAE Washer the motor does not spin on the drain cycle. I changed out the lid switch, disconnect the drain pump to ensure it wasnt a belt issue or a drain pump issue. The motor is just not spinning. This is either a timer or motor issue anyone knows how to rule out either?

SOURCE: Goes through cycle, but doesn't drain. Will drain manually

Hi, Sounds like it could be timer. Does the timer advance to the off position? There could be a partial plug in the hose or pump also. You can add water again and then go to spin cycle. Lift the drain hose out of the drain pipe just enough that you can see the water flow. You should see water draining out with a bit of force and the stream should be the sizt of the drain hose.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can be of more assistance.

Thanks
Vic

Maytag washing machine mah5500Bmodel# put on spin cycle drains out water but wont spin basket

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. If your washer doesn't drain or spin, you may read and learn what parts may cause this. First, you will want to check your water pump. You need to make sure it is working. Make sure you check the belt on the pump. Make sure it is not broken or loose. Also, make sure your pulley is not stuck in place. Sometimes, they will stick or barely turn at all. If this is the case, you will need to replace it. If the pump, pulley, and belt are working, make sure your motor is working. You should be able to hear it if it is. If it isn't, check your lid switch. The lid switch can cause the motor to not work. It may need adjusted. If not, go ahead and change it. A bad lid switch may cause the washer to not work at all. Now, if your pump is pumping and the washer still won't spin, you will want to check your belt and clutch. Once again, the belt may be broke or loose. Check to make sure your clutch is not worn also. This may be a case of a bad lid switch again as well. You could have a bad drive motor. This is what controls spinning, draining, and agitation. You could have a broken motor coupler. Over time, they will go bad and need replaced. It is possible that your transmission is slipping or damaged. And lastly, you could have a bad basket drive ir spin bearing. This is what allows the inner tub to move. If this is the case, you will probably hear loud sounds or loud banging

WASHER WILL WASH ON ALL CYCLES, BUT WILL NOT DRAIN OR SPIN ON EITHER CYCLE

If the timer advances normally thru the spin and drain steps of the cycle you selected, than the problem that would cause neither spinning or draining, is the wash motor is not reversing. The motors is a two direction motor. It spins clockwise for normal agitation, but counterclockwise to engage the wash drum clutch and operate the drain pump. I would ask you to check for motor sounds at all during the spin and drain cycles. The pump reversing in the spin or drain cycles can be a function of the machine's lid safety switch, or if not the motor switch or timer contacts. The lid switch is first thing to check here, for sure! If the machine seems to stop running when it comes time to drain or spin, the lid switch is your best bet!

Hope this helps.

Wont drain

1. Check and make sure that the washer is plugged in. I know that sounds stupid, but washers move and it has happened before.

2. Check and see if the washer works during the rinse cycle. if the motor moves then skip to step 3 If the motor does not turn then you need to test the power outlet. use a small hand held appliance like a hand mixer to make sure the outlet has power. If the outlet has no power you need to check your breakers. If the outlet has power you need to call a repairman for your washer.
3.Good news because your washer works on the rinse cycle your problem may not be that severe. First check to make sure your lid switch is working. The lid switch is a safety device that ensures that the lid is closed before the machine will begin the spin cycle. to check the lid switch simply close and open the lid several times. each time you close the lid you should here a distinctive click. if there is no click then you need to replace the lid switch. if the is a click continue to step 4

4. Ok you have power and you lid switch is working that means you have one of two things going on. 1. you have clog in the line or 2. your pump is burnt out. To check for a clog start at the back of the washer and remove the drain hose. Be ready for water! It may come pouring out. if water does come pouring out then you need to check the drain hose for a clog. If there is no clog in the drain hose then you have a bad pump and it will have to be replaced. If water does not come out when you remove the drain hose then you have a clog. the clog is either in the pump or in the upper hose that runs from the tank to pump.

The washer will not drain

What is the brand of your washer mostly of the washer does not drain have problem of this following parts, so you need to check this.

  1. Inspect the drain hose for kinks
  2. Test the timer control
  3. Test the lid switch (some models). The lid switch ensures that the lid is closed before enabling the machine to spin or agitate. This feature was added after serious injuries resulted from people reaching into an operating washing machine.
  4. Inspect the water pump
  5. Inspect the drive belt (belt drive only)
  6. Inspect the motor coupler
