Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

Have water to the ice maker, but not to the door of our pgss5pjxc ss. I lowered the interior temp to see if that would help, but no luck.

That's what I was afraid of. I took the back off and found the entire line is empty from the valve on, so i guess it's for sure not frozen in the door like someone told me.

    thanks

I have a french door refrig with two ice makers. I cubes seem to be wet in door when crushing ice. Also in bottom ice maker the cubes are stuck together in tray in one clump. I lowered temp to -4 but it...

You need to check the door seal. If you place a $bill in the door it should have resistance all the way around as you pull the bill through. It may just be that the doors need adjustment.. If you are able to maintain -4, the ice maker heaters may not be working properly. Also, you want to check the water valve to make sure that you are getting cold water to the icemakers as hot water coming into the fridge can also cause this. If this is the problem, you can use a longer coiled line for the water inlet valve.

Eletrolux side by side. temp problems. no water on door and at first when the freezer door would close the ice maker would kick on and ice would start dispensing.

Sounds like the touch pad has a jammed button or is shorted , if it dose not release by depressing a few times firmly, the touch pad on the door may have to be replaced. The temperature problem may be unrelated or the ice maker door flap may be remaining open lowering the temperature. Hope this helps.

Will not make ice, freezer temp is high, can not control the temp

Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

No ice being made. water supply for drinking is OK. Model is about 3 years old. question: why no ice. does the automatic shut off arm control the water flow?

Hi there,

Well first of all you can check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off, Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. Check your door seals and thermostat. Please reply if you need more help or information.......

Good Luck!!

Thanks

My ice maker doesnt make ice i have checked all the obvious stuff

Did you check the temperature of the freezer? Most ice makers have a temp senser imbedded in the tray/unit . If the temp in the freezer isn't at least 5 degrees (normally on many ice makers) the ice maker won't operate. This is one possible cause. Other causes could be no water to the tray, the timer motor defective or stuck somewhere in its cycle, or the bin arm is up in the off position. I hope I was of some help! Good luck!!

Ice Maker Has Stopped Making Ice

Hi: I didn't see the simple first solution to try in your list. The ice maker is thermally protected. It won't make ice until the freezer is at 0degrees F. Set your freezer lower in temperature. It may seem cold to you but it has to be at 0degreesF. Frozen at 32 degrees wont cut it. Please don't open the door every 5 minutes to see if it's made ice, as it will raise the temperature. It appears in your question that you listen for the ice to drop. That's the right way. Give it a day to drop in temp. before resetting the temp. This is a free try before you have to call a technician. I hope this helps, Jeff

Check the following suggestions from repairclinic:

The ice maker has a problem The ice maker is a separate appliance within the freezer section. Please see the How things Work section of our website to learn about the normal functioning of ice makers. Some common problems with ice makers are:

The ice maker has completely stopped producing ice
The ice maker is producing ice poorly
The ice maker has completely stopped producing ice Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off.

The ice maker is producing ice poorly When an ice maker is producing ice poorly--when it produces just a few cubes or none, or when the cubes are too small--it's usually because of a clogged water line or a defective water inlet valve.

First, check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve.

There's an ice- or water-dispensing problem The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.
