Do you see the BIOS splash screen or anything?
Try booting into safe mode by pressing F* as soon as you power on the computer. If the monitor works, then it is a bad driver. Roll back to a previous restore point, boot to last known good coonfiguration. Last Known good configuration is available from the same as the safe mode screen.

This isn't a desktop PC by the way. Do any of the lights come on? If not, try to run the laptop from the AC power. If the lights come on but no display, then your backlight or inverter on the LCD panel for your V5000 might be bad.
Remove the memory from your unit - power it up it should beep if full communication is still happening across your m/board. No beeps you board has died. if it beeps and your using two diffent memory modules just fitt one leave the battery out and power it up = if no display pull power swap out the memory and try again. if display occurrs you have a defective memory module - throw that failed unit away
Ensure that the power button is pressed and the monitor is plugged in correctly. If ok, then the installation was stopped while installing your video drivers. If possible use another monitor to re-load the xp operating system until completed. Once the video monitor drivers are loaded the monitor will work again. Let me know if you have any questions.

the very first thing that u can try is that try it with the different ac adaptor and the battery and try it with the differnt ac aaaadaptor and still it doesnt then wahat u said is that u can hear the sound of the fan and the disk is trying to read but u cannnot see anything on the screen adn all u need to clearify is that if the computer is actually running or not and if it is working then what u can do is that connect the external monitor and then try and turn on the laptop and if u get a good display in te external monitor then definately replace the lcd screen and also what u can try is that try and reboot the computer in the safe mode and if turns on and u can see the display in the screen then do the system restore and it will be fine.......and as u said that u get a choppy sound from the fan then what u can do is that try and clean the fan from the back or by opening it......anbd it will not get any sound from the fan......good luck....
