SOURCE: weber genesis silver, won't light

The grill can only have one problem by what you are describing look under the unit you will see a black rubber hose going from the regulator to the gas valve (where you turn it on) this valve when turned opens up and allows the gas to flow from the valve to the burrner bar. you will need to see if the gas in going past to the burrner if so shut off the gas remove the burner and clean it out as the ports mybe clogged thus not letting the gas come out properly but back feeding out the back side of the burrner..Let me know what you find

SOURCE: gas grill ignitors

I recently moved. When the grill arrived to the new home I had to purchase a new propane tank to replace the old one. The grill will not light. For some reason it isn't getting any gas. Any suggestions on what the problem might be?
I tried the obvious... tightening the connections, trying to light it manually etc.
Thanks,
K

If the spark you see is in the ignitor box and not at the burner(s), then there's a wire loose somewhere or the ignitor is not grounded properly. Also check to see if the ignitor tips in the grill next to burner(s) are covered with grease. If so, clean them with a cotton ball dipped in alcohol. Check each ignitor wire at each ignitor , make sure they are secure,

I have a Kenmore model 141.16681 and gas now leaks at the regulator valve

check regulator to see that the rubber seal in the tank coupling
is still good if this has perished or fallen out this maybe the cause of
gas at this point.
best purchase a new regulator if it seems faulty, this part is your life saver, and after 8 years good service could well need replacement.

I hope this was useful.

Kenmore 800 grill replaced ignitor i get a spark but it won't light

First and foremost, make sure the gas tank valve is turned ON and that there is adequate gas in the tank. If that all checks out, do the following:

1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF.

2. Disconnect the hose from the tank and wait 5 minutes.

3. Reconnect the hose to the tank and open the tank valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion,
slow).

4. Once the valve is full open, light the burner farthest from the tank first and turn it to HIGH. Did the
burner light and does the flame height look correct? If so, light the remaining burner(s) the same
way. Did all the burners light and the flame heights look normal. I so, you just solved the
problem (with a little help).

Remember to always turn the tank valve ON Very, Very Slowly.

If it didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the grill's Regulator/Hose Assembly. You can purchase on at any home center or hardware store that sell gas grills and accessories for about $30.00. Take you old one with you for comparison purposes.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know and Happy Grilling!!

I have a Kenmore grill that is 4 years old. Over the last three years I am running thru propane at a crazy rate. The kicker was this spring when I used it twice and the third time it wouldn't light. ...

Well, lotacritters, you've got a real mystery here. First off, the ignitors would play no role in the gas consumption. Plus, it sounds like you always turn the tank valve OFF, after each use (?). So that's not it. So, the problem lies someplace else. I suspect, that the tank was really not empty, although it appeared that it was, when the burner(s) wouldn't light.

Let me explain: All 20 Lb LP Gas Grill Tanks e equipped with an Over Fill Protection Device (OPD), which is safety feature. However, sometimes it does cause problems with the grill's regulator, if the tank valve is not opened properly.

So, here's what you need to try:

1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF.

2. Disconnect the hose from the tank & wait 5 minutes.

3. Reconnect the hose to the tank and open the tank valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion,
slow).

4. Light the burner farthest from the tank first and turn it to HIGH. Does the flame height look
correct? If so, light the remaining burners the same way.

Now, do all the flame heights look correct and are they the right color? If so, you solved the problem. Because, here's what was happening in the past: When you turned the tank valve ON, you did it as your normally would do it, quickly. When that happened the OPD Valve locked up the grill's regulator and made it appear that you were out of gas. When, in fact, you weren't.

But, doing what I recommended didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the grill's Hose/Regulator Assembly, as the regulator is permanently locked up. You can purchase one at any home center or hardware store that sells gas grills and accessories. They run about $30.00. Take your old one with you for comparison purposes.

Just remember to ALWAYS open the tank valve very, very slowly.

Hope this helped to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Hi, We have a Grande Cafe , it is 6 years old,

I think the problem is with the Over Fill Protection Device valve in the propane tank and it's locked up the grill's regulator. To solve the problem turn the tank valve OFF. Disconnect the grill's hose from the tank and wait 5 minutes. Reconnect the hose to the tank and turn the tank valve ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow). Once the valve is fully open, turn on and light the burner that farthest from the grill first. Does the burner light and the flame height look correct? If so, light the remaining burners the same way. Now, do all the burners flames look correct? If so, you solved the problem. Remember to always turn the tank valve ON very, very slowly.

If the above didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the grill's hose/regulator assembly. You can purchase one at any home center or hardware store that sells gas grills and accessories. Take your old one with you for comparison purposes.

Hope this helped you to solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks and Happy Grilling!!

Ronald, I doubt that the gas regulator has much to do with this problem, unless the tank valve is turned OFF or the gas tank is empty Have you tried match lighting the burners, to determine if you're getting gas to them? Also, check the spark ignitors at each burned for a grease build up. using a cotton ball and alcohol clean each ignitor tip.

If you've checked all of the above and you're now getting a spark at each burner, but little or no gas to the main burners, do the following:

Turn the tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank. Turn the tank valve ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY (slow motion, slow). Once the tank valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the tank first and turn the burner to the highest setting. Does the flame height look correct? If so, light the remaining burner(s) the same way. Does their flame height look correct? If so, you solved the problem. Remember to always turn the tank valve ON very, very slowly.

I have a kenmore gas grill that has the side burner. Up until recently, it has been working great. However, now the main grill won't light when pressing the ignition button but the side burner lights...

More than likely, the electrode spark ignitors on your main burners need to be cleaned. They will get covered with grease over time. Also check the wiring from the ignitor module to each spark ignitor being sure that all wiring is firmly in place. To clean the electrode(s) ... a cotton ball dipped in alcohol will work fine.

Hope this helped you solve the problem and Happy Grilling!

Relace your propane regulator, they do go bad form sitting around, had the same problem you have. you should be able to disconnect from the grill, turn on the regulator and smell the propane, if not it's bad.

Gas grill lights but doesn't get very hot

I had this same problem especially when the tank on my 5 burner 2 year-old Kenmore was about half full. The solution above fixed it. I was used to opening the gas fully, turning one burner to high and clicking the button. If I would have read the front of the grill I would have seen that this was incorrect. I turned off the grill completely, unhooked the regulator and reconnected it. With one burner on high I began clicking the button BEFORE I turned on the gas. I slowly turned the gas on one quarter turn and it lit up full flame. I slowly turned the gas another quarter turn and lit the second burner. I slowly opened the gas all the way and lit the third and so on. That did the trick!
