T-3104 recovery not working

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. My T-3104 doesn't have a floppy drive, and it also has windows XP. Another problem is that as soon as I turn it on now, it goes right into trying to create a partition, and I don't know how to get it back to the other start up screen. I did chat with tech support for e-machines, and they told me to press the cntrl, and backspace keys instead of the R key during reboot to get me into the manufactures option screen, and then hit option 4, but that didn't work either. There are a bunch of other options, but I have no idea what they'll do. Thanks.

Bootdisks.com again and burn a bootable cd instead. Try accessing the bios and changing the boot priority to CDROM first and boot from the CD you've just created and follow the instructions of my first reply.

Hi, When I try to start my Dimemsion 5150C in Windows XP computer, I received one of the following error messages "Floppy diskette seek failure Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup...

The "floppy" disk-drive (3.5-inch diskette) on your computer is broken.
Press F1 to ignore the error, and to boot from your C: drive.
Or, press F2 to enter BIOS SETUP, and then navigate through those "setup" screens to tell the computer to "disable floppy seek", or change the setting from "3.5 1.44Mb drive" to "none".
Or, take the computer to a technician, and buy a replacement disk-drive, and get it installed.

Need to find the NTLDR on my emachine I tried the recovery disk option to reset the reboot option - and was still unable to correct the problem. Are you aware of another solution? Thank You

A couple of things.

If the system has a floppy diskette drive, ensure that no diskette is in the drive. (I know it sounds simple but ...)

If no floppy drive issue, then run diagnostics on the hard drive. The drive may be failing.

Last you can try booting to the XP CD enter recovery console, and run the command: CHKDSK /R, then reboot.

My impression, if no floppy drive issue, then failing hdd

Replacement harddrive into acer pc

No matter what you do, you need to partiton and format the drive and install an OS, be it with the Acer recovery disks or with an original XP install disk. You will need to boot from your CD drive to install the OS, if your drive is not bootable you will need to boot from a floppy and load drivers for the CD drive. For information on how to get these boot floppies check out this Microsoft link:

Replacing with harddrive 40GB

Did you simply swap hard drives? "Couldn't find NTLDR" basically means the PC cannot find any version of Windows installed because the boot file is missing. This could be because you have a CD in the drive or the hard drive is missing or broken.

If you put in a new hard drive to replace your older smaller one you need to reinstall Windows on that new 40GB drive or it just won't work. If you have some PC Tech friends they should be able to move the data which is tricky or help you out.

Hard drive failure

Hi, you have nothing to type there. You mean you have chosen the 1st section that opens recovery console, right? not that one. You should see the Terms of Agreement in your WinXP cd first, press F8. A section containing to install a Windows XP appears, Press Enter. Then that's the time it will search for your previous Win xp installation. In will then let you choose whether you will install a fresh copy of WinXP OR to Repair it. Choose the Repair. It will automatically repairs and format your Harddisk without deleting your files in it.  IF there's no Option to repair it, that's the time you will have to go to Recovery Console.
  • To run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD-ROM, follow these steps:
Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
At the command prompt, type the appropriate commands to diagnose and repair your Windows XP installation.

For a list of commands that are available in Recovery Console, type recovery console commands or help at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.

For information about a specific command, type help commandname at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
If still you cannot get through to that, drop me a comment again and tell me what you have done. Feel free to ask me.

Does any one have gateway GT5220 Installation disk ?

Create an ASR Floppy Disk loadTOCNode(2, 'summary'); The following steps can create an ASR floppy disk from an ASR backup operation: 1. Format a 1.44 megabyte (MB) floppy disk and insert the disk into the floppy disk drive of the computer. 2. In System Tools, start the Backup program. When the Backup and Restore Wizard is displayed, click Next. 3. Click Restore Files and Settings, and then click Next. 4. In the What to Restore dialog box, select the media that contains the ASR backup. Ensure that the media is inserted. 5. Expand the Automated System Recovery Backup Set that corresponds to the ASR floppy disk that you want to create. 6. Expand the second instance of the drive letter that contains the system files. Expand the Windows_folder/Repair folder. 7. Click the following files from this repair folder: Asr.sif and Asrpnp.sif, and then click Next. 8. At the Completing Backup or Restore Wizard screen, click Advanced. 9. At the Where to Restore screen, set the Restore Files to: dialog box to Single Folder, and then set the Folder Name dialog box to the root of your floppy drive, for example, "A:\". 10. Click Next. The other options in this wizard are optional and do not affect the transfer of files to the floppy disk. When the wizard is finished, the files are copied to the location that you had previously specified. The ASR floppy disk is ready for use in the event of an ASR restore operation.

NOTE: The Asr.sif and Asrpnp.sif files must reside on the root of the floppy disk drive to be used during a ASR restore operation. Starting the Windows Recovery Console loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); To start the Windows Recovery Console, use one of the following methods: • Use the Windows Setup floppy disks or the Windows CD-ROM to start your computer. At the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press F10 or press 'R" to repair. After you start the Windows Recovery Console, you receive the following message: Microsoft Windows(R) Recovery Console

The Recovery Console provides system repair and recovery functionality.
Type EXIT to exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer.

1: C:\WINDOWS

Which Windows Installation would you like to log on to
(To cancel, press ENTER)? After you enter the number for the appropriate Windows installation, Windows will then prompt you to enter the Administrator account password.

Note If you use an incorrect password three times, the Windows Recovery Console closes. Also, if the Security Accounts Manager (SAM) database is missing or damaged, you cannot use the Windows Recovery Console because you cannot have correct authentication. After you enter your password and the Windows Recovery Console starts, type exit to restart the computer.

When you use Windows XP Professional, you can set group policies to enable automatic administrative logon.

Use the Winnt32.exe utility with the /cmdcons option to add the Windows Recovery Console to the Windows Startup folder. This procedure requires approximately 7 megabytes (MB) of hard disk space on the system partition to hold the Cmdcons folder and files.

Compaq restore cd

Hi mithz.
I'm not you people.
(Please keep track of the user who you ask a question too).

When you installed windows 2000, (If you formatted the entire drive during install), you might have taken out the small partition that holds data for a system restore. No version of windows likes
you going backwards. In order for you're system restore CD's to work you'll need to format the hard disk drive. Windows will not install if Windows 2000 is found on the drive. The fastest way to get Windows 2000 off the drive without deleting any other partitions Compaq installed would be to go to the hard disk drives manufacture's site & download their setup tools/utilities. You'll be able to creat a bootable floppy disk that will function in a dos-like mode out side of windows. You'll be able to format the Windows 2000 partition. Once that is done you will be able to incert the restore CD (s) & install Compaqs windows XP.
You may need to pull the drive in order to see who made the drive. EX; Seagate, Smsung, Maxtor ect. Here is the link for Seagate. http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools
Every manufacture has similar bootable floppy software.
Read the instruction provided by the manufacture on how to create the floppy disk & how to run it.

Good Luck!

Mike

T-3104 Recovery is not working

What anti virus program are you using?

You need one that has a recovery disk like Norton has. That way you can get the viruses to be removed that way if possible.

Otherwise you will have to reformat your hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

System recovery Floppy

you can purchase locally a usb floppy drive and download some small utilities in the internet that can be fit in the floppy disk, but i suggest that better use memory stick because it is cheaper and you can have more space than floppy disk.
