Hey Tim it is a DC14 animal what happens is when you are using either in stand up mode or with the hose there is a valve on top of the cyclone part that is triggered. Usually this happens when you get a clog but now it happens all of the time. There is some suction when this happens but it isn't much. Like I mentioned before I cleaned all of the connections and the filter so I am stumped as to what is happening. Thanks for your help.

Hi Tim, I believe we are on the same page the valve I'm talking about is under the handle of the canister. If you open the canister in the area where you clean the filters there is a spring on the top of the canister lid. At first I thought it was because there was not enough air flow through the filters but after cleaning them it is still happening.

    Thanks for your help

Please confirm, this is a DC 14 Dyson, is that correct? When you say the valve on top keeps tripping.. you mean the little handle "cover" that is where you would attach an end attachment when you use the handle as the hose / extension?

Is this when you are using the floor / base vacuum in the unit, or when you are using the hose - extension of the vacuum?

Please let me know, just reply to my answer here and I can help,

I think I know what you mean... I have this exact same vacuum... but just want to make sure we are talking about the same thing here. So you mean the inlet to the actual "canister" portion... right there? When you save above the cyclone I imagine it must be above the actual canister where the "vacuum" is created, correct?

Ok it sounds like it is not creating a complete vacuum in the canister as it should. Take out the canister, and remove the plastic shield from it (it just pops off, held in by a clip) then take a wire brush of some sort to the middle cylinder of the vacuum canister, the part with all the little holes in it. It sounds like those have gotten clogged up somehow. You can also use a compressor if you have one to blow out the holes once you have "scrubbed" them clean so to speak.

This should help it create the proper vacuum condition needed to get that valve you are referring to back to operational.

Thanks, let me know if you have any questions or concerns, just reply to my answer here and I will be right back with you.

The hose setting may not be actually selecting the hose.

No suction from dyson dc24

Clean or replace filters if needed. Check for suction at wand, if not good could be a clog somewhere or clogged filters, or a leak in the suction somewhere. If good at hose but not at floor it could be a clog or malfunction in changeover valve area. Make sure brush roll is spinning good and brush roll not worn out or frayed.

Hi loss of suction on Dyson DC07 and I have changed the belt on the brushbar and cleaned all filters/removeable parts but still suction not very good, any other suggestions?

Check for a clog where the power nozzle connects to the hose. Clogs or leaks in the hose will both cause loss of suction/air flow. Another possibility is broken or worn out fan blades.

Having a loss of suction issue. Has some suction but isn't enough to use the power head. Tried to take out the filter to wash it but the pull loop ripped off. How do I get the filter out now without...

You should be able to get a screwdriver or tool under the ring to be able to get ahold of enough to pull it out. Check the suction (a suction gage helps) at the power unit and then at all inlet valves. It could be a leak or clog somewhere in there. You have to check all areas to try to narrow down the problem. Look for a loose hose, tube, valve, fitting etc. Check Vac pans closely if you have them.

I vacuumed up some material and then pulled it out now it has no suction from the vacuum head

yikes! hard to lose suction on a dyson! i have this one and have had this problem a couple of times..

remove the canister - check the line in and the hole that goes into the canister for blockages.

check the filter - you can (and should) remove and clean the small foam filter every 6 months.

if it is still clogged - depending on what you vacuumed up....
In the top part of the canister there is a piece that has holes - if these become clogged it can reduce suction.. clean this part.

If you have by some chance vacuumed up ashes or fine dust from drywall.. etc... or if it was wet... and you have done all of these things.. i would take it to be checked... these are no no's for the workings of a vacuum :) Good Luck!

No suction for Kenmore upright vacuum

You have not stated which model vacuum you have. Bipass vacuum have a bipass compartment which is under drive unit. Make sure there are no cracks around housing as this is where you vacuume is created. In order to have vacuum you must have airflow, in assences suction. No air flow, no suction. If the airflow is deverted somehow suction will stop. Your filter, your bag are all sources of air flow. Clog either and you lose suction. Start with loss of air, being cracks in housing, bag or filter

Our dyson ball vacuum keeps blowing air out of a valve at the top of the collection canister causing it to lose sucction. why?

that unit redirects the suction to that valve to protect the motor. check both of your filters and also check for a clog. make sure to clean the inside of the canister as thouroughly as possible.

Bissell 9500 2x deep clean (NO SUCTION)

Like everyone else (!) your lint filter is probably clogged. It is located on the top clear palstic section (the one with the dial to switch from tool to floor use) and is on the underside. It is a small (1 inch square) red plastic filter with a little door on it. Flip the door open and you will probably find it is clogged with hair, carpet fibre., etc.. Clean it out and you should have suction again.

Losing suction filter clean, hoses clear, output blower good, but very poor suction

if the blower is much stronger than the suction, you may have an air leakwhere the cover fits on tank or possibly a warped tank or cover. feel all around the unit for air being drawn in somewhere besides the hose. try it without the hose on and block the inlet for a couple seconds to see if the unit leaks air in. also replace the filter , dont try to clean it, the pores clog and reduce suction and damage motor.

No Suction
Possible Causes Remedies
Tank is full. Empty tank.
Dirty/Collection tank latch is not down. Push latch down, securely
into place.
Black Valve on the Dirty/Collection Tank is missing. Replace Black Valve into Dirty/ Collection tank.

Usually there is a seal out of place, or a filter is clogged, so you lose suction.
