Question about Dishwashers

Open Question

Whirlpool dishwasher - fuse blowing

I have the same, or almost the same dishwasher as you.
One day, my wife just said its not working. It's got no power, nothing.

I suspect it may be a fuse.

My father in law has more experience with electrical than I do (none!).

Do you know one, where this fuse is on the washer and two, where can I buy a new part and what is it called?

Thanks very much

SOURCE: Faulty Diplomat Dishwasher - tripping mains fuse

Hello,

My dishwasher a diplomat 12 program (hja8640) was doing exactly the same where every now and again when turned on at the plug it would trip. After engineers coming out several times and failing to fix it, they condemed it. New one was supplied, however did exactly the same thing. The electrician came back, checked the RCD power breaker and this was fine. It was then discovered that some dishwashers and washing machines send out a lot of earth leakage, combine this with other appliances on in the house can be enough to trip.

Soloution. The electrician removed the kitchen circut from the RCD breaker and intalled another breaker RCD just for the kitcehn loop, this therefore means that the kitchen has a seperate trip from the rest of the house, and touch wood, has solved the problem. This mind you has taken about three months to work out so i hope it saves you some time.

Always use a fully qualified electrician though.

Thanks.

SOURCE: Miele G868 Dishwasher is dead, won't even turn on

I had a similar problem. Check the control knob that turns the machine on. At this age, it sounds like the control knob is either bad or a wire has burned off. Check to see if their is an internal fuse in the washer.

no their is no fuse. sound to me like your motor is not working, however
the pump should still drain out.push cancel only and unit should drain if it does then id say motor bad. you can try to take apart and check motor blade ive seen toothpics, food , other objects hold motor impeller from turning making it seem like its the motor but actually its just stuck..remove btm wash arm and filter cover thentake two or 3 small screws from a plastic cover covering motor impeller, look to see if anything is in their if so remove. warning if you see a white ball down their leave it alone reinstall and see what happens. hope this helps.

Whirlpool Point Voyager Dishwasher blows thermal fuse - pump motor draws 10A

Yes 10amp seems a lot of current being drawn by the pump motor. Not sure if it is safe to run dishwasher in this condition. One reason could be a leaky capacitor on the motor. Try to replace it. The blinking "clean light" is a common problem with some of the Kenmore and Whirlpool models dishwashers. The problem is usually attributed to water supply temperatures being too low when filling. Apparently, there are some issues with the temperature sensing circuits in some dishwashers that causes an error code to be generated if a certain water temperature is not achieved in a specified time interval (this time may differ between models). There is a reset sequence that you can try to clear the fault. Push the NORMAL WASH then HEATED DRY buttons in that sequence two to three times. The unit will enter diagnostics mode, but can be stopped by pressing the CANCEL button. This will clear any existing faults and should return the dishwasher to normal operation.

To keep the fault from returning, it is recommended that you run your hot water faucet in the kitchen until it runs hot BEFORE you start the dishwasher. This will heat the water in the supply line for the dishwasher (most dishwashers are fed from the kitchen sink supply line). The theory is that if you fill the dishwasher with hot water from the start of the wash cycle instead of the cool water that is normally in the lines (especially if you have a hot water tank located far away from the kitchen), this should satisfy the requirements of the temperature sensing circuits. If the fault reappears, there should be a tech sheet located inside the lower panel under the door that explains what the fault is. The flashing light will be a series of flashes, followed by a pause. If you indeed have a component problem, it will depend on the number of flashing lights in the sequence. Refer to the tech sheet to determine WHAT component is affected and how to troubleshoot.

Why thermal fuse is blown

If you have no power to your machine and the power is on it is the thermal fuse. If the fuse is blown you will get no power at all. To my understanding after talking to many people the thermal fuse is likely the first thing to go bad on a whirlpool dishwasher. A power surge to your unit would cause the fuse to blow or the control board to go bad.

Is there a fuse on the Whirlpool 24 in. DU910PFG Built-in dishwasher? ... it just stopped working!

Good evening, There is no fuse that would shut down everything.Check for switch under sink or your home circuit breaker. Then it could be your door switch which shuts every thing down .It may be stuck open.Sometimes a door slam will get it going but still needs replacement.$40 part though.Switch is located behind console and can be checked with ohm meter.Sears Parts Direct shows blow up of your machine.
If it was your circuit breaker and it blows again ,you have a short and you'll need tech. to troubleshoot or maybe there is another load on that circuit (like toaster etc)

hope this helped

Hello,

It seems you may have an Electrical Insulation Break Down fault with your machine.
My suggestion would be to get a Registered Appliance Technician to test the internal circuit of the machine before attempting to switch on the appliance or rectify any fuses.
The appliance needs to be issued with a (PAT) test first to determine if the appliance is safe to touch when applying power to the machine so you dont electrocute your self.
Once the (PAT) test has been applyed then the technician can visually inspect the high voltage internal parts that could be the result of the insulation break down.
I strongly suggest if any kitchen appliance trips the main fuse for any reason I would recommend not trying to change any fuses as this second atempt to reboot the machine may have blown the machines 'Power Control Module'!
