By the end of the day we realized we thought the refrig. part was working but was not. We pulled it out from the wall, unplugged and plugged it back in. Still no results. I unloaded everything from the freezer in the morning and refrig in the evening. Right after I got almost the very last item out, (the door on the refrig was opened and left opened) I moved the temperature control levers back and forth quickly, really just out of frustration, thinking, 'great no more refirgerator' - now what am I gonna do?!. i went to dump the last of the contents, and like some sick joke, the refrig started working and then the freezer. We have quite a bit of dust under the refrig. that may have been blocking a fan or something. I think God just wanted me to empty the refig contents and things that looks like pieces of the moon from my ridge. Go figure. I am praying no more problems.

Top is frozen lower shelves food is dethawing

One of two things is going on here, either the door is not closing properly (or some one left it open), check the seal all the way around especially at the bottom.

Or most likely you have a refrigerant (freon) leak that has left the charge low enough that you are unable to get it to cool throughout. A leak on this type of unit is usually in the evaporator in the corner where a weld was made. The evaporator is about $189.00, with refrigerant a new drier and supplies I bet it would run about $450.00 to repair.

FREEZER WORKING BUT FRIDGE NOT

Remove the rear panel in the freezer and see if the evaporator coils are frozen over.
If so dethaw coils with a hair dryer.
Reassemble freezer and set controls to the normal position.

Although you replaced the defrost timer if the coils were frozen over in the freezer no air can transfer to the ref. section from the freezer.

If you do not want to dethaw the coils unplug the ref. for 1-2 days and leave the doors open .The coils will dethaw by then.

Water collects in the bottom of the freezer and freezes. I totally shut down the refrigerator for 24 hours and it is ok for 2-3 months when the same thing happens.

The defrost drain hole is plugged.
The drain is located in the back of the freezer at the bottom of the drain trough.
Remove the back panel if you are handy.
Or call a service tech.
After dethawing the the ice covering the defrost drain
poor hot water down the drain hole and wait a few minutes for the ice to melt in the drain tube.
If after 10min. the water does not drain or is real slow
you use a shop vac. to clear the debris from the drain line or air compressor to blow it out.
If the unit freezes up again call for service.
The defrost heater is proabally out of spec. or the drain heater(If the unit has one) is defective.

Hopefully this helps

Refrigerator is stuck in defrost mode.

If the compressor is running and not getting cold I would say that you have burnt out your compressor.
If it was stuck in defrost you wouldn't hear the frig running. When in defrost the compressor stops while the frig defrosts.

My whirlpool gold refridgerator - side-by-side - gd5shaxkq00 - is defrosting

I already posted this, but here it is...

The outage/start relay needed replacing. I tried it, and it worked. (The kit came with insturctions.) Total cost: $64 (Would have been cheaper if I would have been willing to wait a couple of days - +/-$45.00.)
