Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Error message 22 on WS-65809. I've read your help to others and I've pulled the board out. The white grease has oozed onto the board under one of the convergence chips. I have two questions: if I replace the convergence chips, how do I remove the old ones? I picked up a pencil soldering iron and some silver solder from RS. Second question, should I replace the pico fuse(s)? If so, how do I do that? Really appreciate the help!

Hi,

You almost assuredly have a defective convergence output IC. The set uses two of them, they are part number STK392-570.

But you also have one or two blown fuses. They are labeled F9A04 and / or F9A05. These are soldered-in pico fuses, about the size of a grain of rice. Both should be replaced along with both of these IC's.

All of these components are located on the Power Board, which is the center board.

You can order all of these components from

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/

Order the IC's by the STK number, and the part number for a box of 5 of the pico fuses is 28-0636.

Have a look at :-

http://home.earthlink.net/~oleg.filippov/ConvergenceFix.htm

The above site is a generic one but would be the most explanatory i have found till date.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Hello There, Its seems that the circuit board has problems. You'll have to get it replaced ASAP before the board is ruined completely.
The same thing also happened to me 2-3 weeks ago. the techs came in and had to replace the board since 1 circuit was damaged.
It will cost around $100

Mitsubishi ws-65809 powers on for 2 seconds. After holding menu & input I get a 1 blink, 2 blink error code. Anyone know what this error code is and how to fix. Thanks

2,2 error code is short protection---98% of the time it means one of the two soldered in pico fuses this set uses is blown----there are several---but your problem means if it is ws-65809 one of the two stk-392-570 convergence chips has failed.

I will attach a photo---they are on the middle circuit board and the two to the right are for convergence--both are green and 5 amp--with the set unplugged check both of them like any fuse--no reading means bad.

If you find this--I HAVE START TO FINISH, STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS REPAIR IN THIS SET--SHOPS WILL GET 300 or more but you if you can do it yourself buy everything you need for under 40 dollars--I can tell you the best place to get the chips, fuses, etc.

If you want the instructions let me know and I will post them here for you---they are based on my own actual experience doing this repair in this kind of set hundreds of times.

If this information helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Here is a photo of what the two chips look like--The one in the picture says 392-560 but yours uses two that look just like it--STK-392-570.

Mitsubishi WS-65809 - works, but screen won't power on.

yes that is correct 12 is normal...make sure all connectors are plugged in and in the correct places . conectors should be marked with letters that match the marking on the circuit board. Then look for heaters , in the glass bottom of the picture tubes(CRTs) there should be a little orange glow visable though the neck of the CRTs just above where the crt boards plugg onto the bottom. if the heaters are not glowing then check your wires to the crt boards again , you probly tugged one of them too hard during disassembly also check for cracked solder in the heater circuit......Oh yeah, you didn't mention -Does the TV get high voltage ??? thats important to having a picture......If you see the heaters glowing when the tv is on then look down into the lenses of the crts . If you see a brite color horizontal line closer to one side in each of them then you know most of the tv is working. If that line is curved then the tv probly detects that the convergence circuit is not working and it is blanking video.
OR -----
the error is 21 (see what number it ends the sequence with..) . Error 21 is X_Ray protect and you probly plugged one of the connectors into the diagnosic connector(near the high voltage transformer- normally nothing goes there) . If that is the case then somthing in the H.V. circuit could have been permanently damaged and now the tv has a new problem and wont work even if you put that connector in the right place.

look on the center circuit board and you will see two green Pico fuses they look like resistors but they dont have any bands on them . They will have F9A04 and F9A05 on the board next to them. Check with a ohms meter if those fuses are open you will ned new convergence ICs. Thats the first thing to check are those two pico fuses when you get a 22 error on your model.

its most likely has a 22 error blink, if menu and device are pressed together and held for 5 seconds to activate the self diagnosis feature. which would indicate short protect.
