    Hello,

Thank you for the service manual! I got the cavity TCO replaced but don't see any instructions for location of replacing the magnetron TCO. Could you send that?

  • gooface Nov 08, 2010

    Hello,
Ok, getting closer but not fixed. The microwave was shutting off by itself (like the breaker was flipped) and then would turn back on by itself. Finally, it went completely dead. I replaced the cavity TCO (one connector melted) and the magnetron TCO. Now it lights up but won't start. The thermal fuse (if that's the one behind the control panel) check ok with ohm meter. Maybe the second fuse is blown? I can't find the second fuse. Do you know where it is located? Any other ideas? Thanks!

  • gooface Nov 08, 2010

See the other fuse in the diagram? Could that one being out cause the problem?

  • gooface Nov 08, 2010

Well thanks for the bad news! Bummer, i was hoping i could fix it cheaply. Thanks for all your help!

  • gooface Nov 08, 2010

Thanks for the tips and the information!

  • gooface Nov 16, 2010

Hello, asking for your help again. I ordered and replaced the control panel and was so happy when it all lit up, programmed, turned on, etc. I thought it was fixed! I reinstalled and hooked up the venting and went to cook something tonight, low and behold, microwave does not get hot. Something i may have left unplugged? Any ideas? Thanks, James

  • gooface Nov 18, 2010

Hello, i need more of your help. Please read the last post i sent you. Thanks!

  • gooface Nov 18, 2010

which fuse is for the magnetron? The thermal fuse or the other fuse?

  • gooface Nov 18, 2010

where is the fuse on there?

  • gooface Nov 18, 2010

where is it located though? If that one is out, will everything work normal except the microwave does not heat?

  • gooface Nov 18, 2010

I appreciate your help and all your comments! You are one of the most thorough techs i have dealt with on this site and most helpful. Thank you for all you have done so far. I really appreciate it! I will remove the microwave again and take it apart and check connections and the fuse.

I am sorry, this is the only service manual available on the internet. But if I am right, everything is mentioned with little differences. Try again on page No. 50, 53 and 57, it's labelled as "Mag. TCO", I think this made you confused.

Let me know if you still need further help. For now, I have to retire.

    Good luck.

The problem is because I don't have this same Unit to try myself. But when I checked the circuit diagram, there's no other fuse inside the "Thermal Fuse" i.e. from thermal fuse to varistor :

If this is the one you've checked, Red Arrow, then the faulty must be on the Smart Board, likely one or some capacitors are blown out. This circuit diagram is on Page No. 53 (Manual), If it was the one with that 20 ampere (20A), then please recheck...

For your reference, the Smart Board is on Page No. 52.

No, if that fuse is out, then the the machine shouldn't boot as it connects the main components. I would suspect the capacitors or the Relay Board.

Sorry for the delay. I am not very sure which part might have missed or which connection/component could be the cause, but with heating issue, you need to check the Inverter, switch (micro-switch) and magnetron. These are the only three components related to heating issues (if you've correctly reassembled the unit). Check the inverter board for damaged or bad capacitors or resistors, if you find a suspect, replace it/them. Check the Magnetron fuse and make sure it's not burned or the tip is clean. Verify that the switch is working. These are the things you need to take notes of.

Well, let me simply show you a picture, it's like this :

Sorry it's my mistake, i thought you were asking about the tube, the other fuse i.e. FUSE(20A) [look at the circuit diagram] is the magnetron fuse.

I am sorry, I can't make that specific since this machine isn't with me, I am only referring to the circuit diagram to assist you. If you prefer, I would opt out. Assuming a problem virtually without inspecting physically is a burden for me and I think you'd feel the same. As per the circuit diagram, if that fuse is out, half of the "Smart Board", i.e. bottom part will not receive any power and the oven will not heat up. Thanks.

It's Ok and I should apologize to you too.. If reassembling isn't fix the issue, I would highly recommend you to call a local tech or take it to a local repair store, I think that'll be better for you and will not waste another more time and energy. But it's also not possible in some areas where repair shops/centers aren't available. For now, I wish you all the best.

    Thanks for using FixYa.

Either the coupler is cracked, the motor is defective, or the turntable support ("rotating ring asm") is worn or defective.

When you take the top off and stare into the unit you will see a white fuse in a black plastic fuse holder. Look carefully. I had to replace the melted fuse holder as well. Radio shack has the fuses and holders.

GE Advantium won't heat

Actually, these have a 10-year warranty on the magnetron and on the halogen speedcook lamps.

GE will even send you the magnetron to replace it yourself. Call them at 888-239-6832.

The full service manual with installation instructions is here.

Part ordering help (if you need other parts) is here.

I'd recommend that your bookmark this link to your favorites.

If you or someone you know want to replace the magnetron yourself, you will need to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward. Thewy are in the service manual.

You can also download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions
here.

If you prefer to replace it though, I would suggest doing Google searches to try to find 240V microwave ovens. They're the exception.

Is it like the sound in the video?

If so, it may be a bad damper control switch or the damper assembly may be binding.

If it's new, then it should be fully covered under warranty and GE should send a servicer out at no charge. GE Customer Service is here.

If it is not under warranty, then w
