Did you look for a burr near the point of the needle?

If the surface of our needles is a thin layer of chrome it could break lose from the main body of the needle when we hit a zipper too fast leaving a rough spot but I think that constantly pulling a tight thread through the eye of the needle would after a while cut that thin layer ...

Point of the Hook can become sharp due to excessive needle bending into point.Run finger nail on point to check for burrs or razor sharp point. Repair by rubbing out burr & point with light a gauge emery cloth.Future Fix; Change needle often to prevent needle stress. What needles do you use for a Consew 206RB-5 for topstitching jeans very heavy cotton thread? The new designer top stitch. and Can you??Helplindablake@cfl.rr.com

Hello Linda, The information I have on the Consew 206RB-5 is that it is a walking foot machine that has a needle system 135X17 also known as DPX17. Needles in that class range in size from 80/12 (narrowest) to 180/24 (widest) However, They do make larger sizes up to 200/25 in a leather point. Keep in mind, the smaller the needle size, the smaller the needle eye is. I make truck tarps out of 18 ounce heavy vinyl. I use a 140/22 size needle with a 138 size thread. As to what you are sewing, I think a midrange size such as 120/19 or 125/25 will do for you. It also depends on the size of thread you use. Good luck, I hope this helps you.

My Thread is shreading and breaking off at the needle site

Change your needle, and try a different type of thread. You may also need to use a larger needle size to allow for the type of thread you're using.

Tension discs/ shredding needle thread

Hi,
Your knee pad raises the presser foot and in turn releases the disc tension. The mechanism for this is in the front of the machine. If you can remove a nose piece this will be a lot easier to see,
There is a pin that pushes the tension discs open and quite often this has been removed or adjusted so a to not release tension when the presser foot is raised {more likely if this was a production machine} If someone took the tension control apart to accomplish this that my guess as to question 2.
The best part about Consew is the parts are common and the whole tension assembly isn't expensive. You can find service manuals on their website (see link) http://www.consew.com/Files/112347/InstructionManuals/206RB-5.pdf

Consew 206rb bending needle

I have three possible solutions:
1. If sewing on heavy fabric or thru several layers, change needle to a larger size.
2. Make sure to let the fabric feed by itself, don't pull on it.
3. Make sure the upper thread is not catching on something (like the end of the spool), this will cause the needle to bend and break.

good luck!
