I have a 1993 ford Econovan maxi . I have ignition point . What is the gap on the ignition point . Thanks

point gap is .40 to .50 mm ( point 4 to point 5 mm) or .015 to .20"
most point distributors are at the .02 " mark but check and adjust as points to wide will misfire under load or lack power if too close
point gap variations can change ignition timing

What is the dwell angle on a 3f engine if point gap is 18 thou

dwell angle is the no of degrees rotation between points closed and points open and for example on a 4 cylinder engine ( 4 lobes =90 degrees the dwell would be around 45 degrees available
there is an adverse relationship between point gap and dwell angle
the closer the points the bigger the dwell and conversely the bigger the gap the smaller the dwell angle
in a distributor the point gap of 18 would have a large dwell angle and that affects ignition timing
in your workshop manual there will be a dwell angle specification and if you set the points at .020 " that will put you close to the dwell angle specification
from there you adjust the gap to obtain the dwell setting
after yo have the dwell set , adjust the ignition timing
there is plenty of information on dwell angle, /point gap if you type in ---dwell angle to point gap relationship--

What is the ignition point gap?

In older engines with traditional points-condenser-coil ignition systems the dwell if the ignition was set by the gap between the points. The points act like a switch that opens and closes the circuit of the primary side of the ignition coil.

All later engines use electronic ignition that do not require points.

What is gap

Hi, Mike pertaining to engine spark plugs, "GAP" is the distance between the positive and negative electrodes at the base of the plug and is measured in thousands of an inch or mm by using a round pin gap gauge or flat blade feeler gauge. Every engine manufacturer has a specific design-size-heat range- gapped spark plug. Gaps will vary depending on engine brand. Gap is also referred to in engines using a mechanical "POINTS" ignition system instead of electronic ignition (what is the points gap) for more information about your question and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please visit the websites below. No spark on spark plug and coil gets really hot and the car doesnt want to start mini 1275

The points may be closed up . This would complete the ignition coil circuit heating the coil but as the points would not open there would be no spark. First check that the distributor shaft is rotating and the contact point gap is set corectly when the rubbing block of the points is on the edge of the distributor shaft cam. From memory the gap should be .45 mm or 20 thou . Failing that the coil could have shorted out internally. Make sure if you replace the coil that you get the correct coil for the car.

Point gap is about .018" if you can get the
timing aligned there. If not, vary the gap
slightly.
Spark plug is NGK BPR5ES-11 with a .022"-.025" gap.

Electronic ignition plug gap is much larger at .040"
