Question about Taco 1/2" 006 BC4-TAC Circulator Pump/ Timer /Aquastat

1 Answer

The taco cartridge circulator #006-BC4 was working fine. Then there was a brief power outage, now it is hot to the touch, and circulates hot water to one part of the house, but not to the other 2/3's of the home. What is the problem?

Taco Pump always on

Hello Melville,

That is a VERY NICE FEATURE designed to
give you INSTANT HOT WATER every-time
you use the faucet...

If it is done well it DOES NOT sound like the water
is running all the time... (big if).

The really wonderful part... HERE in CALIFORNIA
where WE have INFRASTRUCTURE to support
15 MILLION ... and we approximate 40 MILLION thirsty
residents... It is NICE to know A FEW responsible people
like you ARE NOT WASTING Gallons of water at EACH USAGE...
waiting for the water to get warm.

You ALREADY have instant warm water at your finger-tips because of your circulating pump.

I cannot figure out why my hot water no longer gets hot. I unplugged my timer 3 years ago and never had a problem. Now, no hot water unless timer is on and circulating.

Best solution is to remove the circulation-system crossover located under sink and see if problem is solved.
After removing crossover piece, try hot water tap.
Another way to check if this is the problem: Turn off cold water shut-off located above water heater. No need to turn off power or gas to water heater. Now, no water should flow when you turn on hot water tap because hot is turned off.
Open hot water side of double handled faucet. If water still comes out the hot side, then crossover is the problem.

After removing Taco crossover, you can still have the problem if a single handled faucet has the same type of crossover issue.
Repeat test to see if water comes out of hot side when water to water heater is shut off.
If water still comes out of hot side, then put ear against each single handled faucet and see which one has sound of moving water. That will narrow down the suspects.

My circulator hums when running vibrating all the pipes

Try cleaning it out with CLR.
The humming is a vibration in the motor or blockage in the line.
If motor is slowed, then it will begin to overheat, and then stop working.

My Taco 006 circulation pump quit working. It make a vibrating noise and does not pump. I just bought it a year ago. Can you help.?

Usually when these motors slow down, they get hot and burn out.
You can try taking it off and cleaning with CLR, but normally when they stop working, they do not revive.
I am not sure what the warranty policy is from Taco, or if Taco has a parts list.

I think following link takes you to the Taco website:
You can contact them for warranty/parts information

I have a Taco circulating pump #003-BCY-3 PNP. I don't know how to set the analog timer?

Adjust dial to the correct time. Pivot the white pins out to have the pump work during that time. In other words not just one pin, but all the pins from say 6am to 8am. Was a bit confused the first time I saw this set up as well. Good luck
