Easy fix... wow... um.. maybe.

I think that you may have accidently disconnected the metal arm between the foot pedal and the actual switch. Its not a problem, but you will have to open the top of the kirby unit to see if it has been disconnected or not. we are trying to get to the area above the wheels but below the foot switch.

first, take the handle and the bag off the unit and lay them down.
next, take the plastic covering around the switch off, you will need a flat screwdriver to take that off. the pry spot is just above the switch where you can slide in the screwdriver.
next, lift up the light and remove your belt/brush attchment off the front of the unit.
remove the 2 screws at the top portion looking just above the shaft sticking out of the unit.
remove the 2 screws behind the foot switch
you should see what looks like a 7/L chrome metal bar going between the footswitch and an orange plastic piece inside the unit where the bag goes. it should be inside the orange plastic piece and inside the lower portion of the footswitch.

I think that when you dropped the wheels it may have come off of the footswitch. re-attach and you should be good to go.

Good luck.

I need to know how to change the belt on a fantom xt

Turn it upside down.On the bottom where the brush is are 4 screws.Unscrew those 4 screws.Remove the plate. Now you can see the belt. There may be a second plate covering part of the belt,if so remove it too.The belt fits around the brush in a groove the same width as the belt. The other end of the belt fits on a small wheel about half way back from the brush.Put the plate back on and you are done.

Belt is broken. Not sure how to replace

1. Get a long screw driver (probably phillips head) a strip of tape.
2. Look around underneath your vac for screws... look carefully because sometimes they are sneaky and hidden in weird areas like under the wheels, etc.
3. Take screws out stick them in order on tape turned upwards. (remember how you took them out.)
4. Gently remove the bottom cover.
5. Clean and remove debris, hair, dust bunnies, rocks... whatever.
6. Determine where the belt goes, disengage the beater bar on that side (may need to unscrew something) Belt on beater bar gears. Other end of belt on motor end... then stretch belt with beater bar until it fits back in it's place and replace any screws, etc.
7. Make sure the belt is seated properly.
8. replace cover, screws... test.**

** sometimes belts require that you put a twist in them so it can transition from the motor's direction to the beater bar's direction... if you twist the wrong way... the beater bar will spit dirt out the front of the vac.. (it's bulldozing it) In that case remove cover and twist the belt the other way.

Good luck.

Is there some trick to putting a transmission belt on a kirby gen. 3 ?

It would be very unusual to have a transmission belt problem. To access the belt; the handle, and switch cover plate are first removed. Next remove the 4 screws that hold the upper motor cover in place. Next remove the switch button by prying up gently on it's attaching lugs and pull it free of the switch actuating rod. 3 screws hold the transmission to the base. DO NOT remove the screw in the rear beneath the on/off pedal. By dropping the power drive assemby slightly down, you should be easily able to remove the belt.
P S: I have repaired 100's of power drive Kirbys, and have never seen a bad power drive belt. If the self-propel seems to work poorly, it is usually because the rear wheels are worn out.

The motor on my carpet tool (beater brush) stopped running yesterday. The main vacuum still works, but the switch for the carpet tool just clicks and doesn't turn it on.

Knowing the model would help.
Possible problems:
Broken or disconnected wire in hose, connections, power nozzle.
Hose needs replaced. Check all connections for discoloration and cracked supports. Have power nozzle checked at a vacuum shop. Depending on the model, take it to an authorized Aerus Electrolux store for this.
Bad power nozzle motor Needs replaced.
Bad switch. Take the whole machine in for thorough check and repair..

I need instruction on how to replace the drive belt.

first unplug the device...depending on the model you have there are two screws that hold the cover onto the unit. sometimes they are hidden behind the rubber wall guard and sometimes they are hidden in the random designs on top or even the bottom of the unit. you unscrew the screws (usually 2) and remove the plate. you should be able to see the drive belt now, remove and replace with the new one. (it would be a good idea to clean hair etc out while you are in there :) ) make sure it turns freely and replace the cover, screw it in. vacuum to your hearts content

How replace rear wheel bissell 9400?

Hello,

Hi There,

Ok, so in order to get the wheel assembly back into the machine, you're going to have to take apart the machine, or at least the housing underneath of the clean/dirty solution tank, as well as the housing that the shampoo solution sits on. I took pictures to help you on this repair.

Here's what you need to do:

Step 1. Remove both the Shampoo tank and the Clean / Dirty Water tank from the machine completely and set them aside. You'll need to now remove the housing that the shampoo container sits in by unscrewing the 5 screws that I've circled in red:

cc9d7bd.jpg

Step 2. After you've removed these 5 screws, lift straight up on the housing that the shampoo tanks sits in. You'll now need to remove the screws that I've circled red to remove the complete lower housing that secures the wheels in place:

Step 3. You'll need to unhook the clear housing in the front that holds the brush cover over the bottom housing. You may just use a flat head screw driver, or something to pry this housing off the bottom plate:

Step 4. Open up the bottom housing by grabbing the raised portion of the motor housing in the back of the machine. Simply re-insert the wheels into the grooves now, and after the wheel is in place, re-secure the lower housing over top of the wheel to keep it from coming out again. The bottom plate is what goes over top of the wheel to keep it in place.

If you have any follow up questions, please just add a comment here on Fixya, and I'll do whatever it takes to make sure that you get your Bissell ProHeat fixed. I'm not just one of these "experts" that just gives you vauge information and really doesn't know or care about getting your problem fixed. My concern first and foremost is to see you get your problem fixed, and I'm happy to answer as many follow up questions as it takes to get that done. I hope this helped!

Thank you,

Chris Jones

Power cord broken inside s251i miele How do i open the s251i ????

HOW TO OPEN MIELE 251 VACCUUM: 1-Unplug from wall and disconnect power cord 2-Remove black switch panel at back of top panel: A-Use Phillips screwdriver, remove two silver screws visible between back of hinged top door and front of black switch panel
B-Push back of the panel down while pushing it forward (towards front of machine). There are two plastic notches and clips which are tightly fit together that you need to separate.
Once it releases, push it a bit more towards the front of the machine and lift off panel. It has wires connecting it to the main body so it will not remove completely.
C-Be careful not to lose the springs that simply sit inside of two plastic channels, one under each of the two switches. These are required for your witches to operate properly.
3-Locate screw at bottom of deep rectangular hole now revealed (under former location of black switch panels). Unscrew using Phillips screwdriver. 4-Open hinged top panel. Locate two silver screws, one on each side of main housing. Unscrew using Phillips screwdriver. 5-This will let you lift off the whole top assembly, door and main housing, revealing the plastic chassis and the motor unit within.
You now have access to the motor, wiring connector harnesses, circuit board and the cord reel.
