Bottom Part The freezer is working fine; however, the bottom part is not cooloing. I already cleaned the coils. I hear the fan and I am assuming it is working well because of the freezer working properly. What should I do next? Thanks in advance for all the help

Freezer working but no cooling in the bottom cabin

There is something blocking the cold air from the freezer from reaching the refrigerator compartment. Since you mentioned frost in the freezer section, I can assume that the defrost circuit has failed. This circuit is made up of a defrost timer/module, heater and thermostat. I can't determine whether you have a defrost timer or module since you did not supply a model number.

What you need to do is to unplug the refrigerator, empty the freezer and remove the panel in the freezer section. This panel will give you access to the evaporator motor/fan, the evaporator coil and the defrost heater. Take a hair dryer and use that to melt the ice. Make sure that you monitor the drip pan regularly as you melt the ice since it will fill up with water and you will need to empty it regularly.

Once you get the coil clear of ice, you should see a heating element, it either lookes like a black wire that is attached to the evaporator coil, or it could look like a glass tube with a filament inside. If you have a meter you can determine whether the heating element is working. If the meter resistance setting show it as open, then you will need to replace the heating element. If the element is good, then you will need to check the defrost timer to see if it is turning the cam to periodically run the defrost mode.

If you do not have the ability to troubleshoot the defrost circuit, then call a service company. You can put the refrigerator back together and it should be able to cool the refrigerator compartment, until the service person and fix the problem.

Hope this helps you.

I can hear the motor running and the lights are on. But the refrigerator is warm and the freezer has thawed everything.

By motor, I assume you are referring to the compressor underneath the refrigerator. Close by the compressor toward the rear of the refrigerator, there should be a compressor fan. This should be turning. If it's not, the refrigerant coils will not be cooled adequately. This results in inadequate cooling inside the unit. Check also to make sure the coils are not covered with dirt and grime. If they are, clean them.

If the compressor fan is not turning, you will need to replace the fan motor.

There is a defrost problem. Ice builds up between the ref and frz sections and wont allow coolo air through. You can also check to see if the damper is stuck closed

Freezer not cooling

there is an external fan near the compressor usually at the bottom of the unit on the back side and if this fan does not run the freezer will not freeze. u can also look for a defrost timer located near the bottom of the refrigerator with the door open or just under the freezer in the refrigerator compartment. It will look like a plastic screw that can be turned only one way with a flathead screwdriver because of its design. Some times these timers just get stuck and will work again if u rotate it with a screwdriver one revolution or two. Allow an hour to see if freezer works after tuning. Please rate me
