Lock your player. (slider at top edge slid so it shows orange instead of white) Hold in the "Record" button on upper left side of player while connecting player to computer. Keep holding in the "Record" button until recovery mode comes up onscreen. Then you can use the recovery exe file you downloaded from Sandisk and should be back in business.

Connect to a computer & see if it is recognized there. If it does then it could be due to battery. Remove it clean the contacts. If batteries are OK it should start charging when connected to a computer(USB)
if you're using limewire to get songs you probably downloaded a corrupted file in which case the best you can do is back up the songs you know arent corrupted and then format the device
ok i just had the white screen issue after some squezzing thinking it might be something loose i randomly decided to turn it on wile holding the left button and to my surprise im greeted by the word SANSA and not a white screen. hope this can help someone

Go ahead and do this, in case the DB is corrupted:
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx
