We accidentally threw out the directions with the box and are not sure how to prepare the rice and water to put in the rice cooker/

Wash the rice in a seive till water runs clear. Use a cup of rice to a cup of water. Or if you have measurement levels on the inside, fill water up to the number of cups of rice you have put in. Cup size is more like an oriental cup size than a regular teacup.
Hope this helps.

There are lines on the inside of the inner pot that show how much rice and water to put in. It is roughly 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of water. Put this inside the lower pot, put a cup or two of water in the lower pot and get it boiling, then turn it down with just enough heat to keep the water boiling. Just make sure the water doesn't boil away. The rice will be done in about 45 mins. The nice thing about this cooker is that you can't really overcook the rice. It will keep it warm and ready to serve for some time.

hope you have figured out the ratios but in case you haven't--here are the ratios. The white rice is measured by 3/4 cups. I put three 3/4 cups of white rice in the cooker then add water to the number 3 line--this works great. I had misplaced the rice cooker measuring cup for about a year but found it this morning and sure enough it is the same as 3/4 cup. good luck

Rice cooking

if that rice when cooked is too soft or too hard.. then , you might want to add more water to it. the correct ratio for cooking rice is always 1 cup rice and 1 cup water. it also depends on what type of rice your cooking though, some type of rice become too mushy when too much water is added... so always have some minimal water to the uncooked rice.

Cooking Rice

Ironically, I came to this site with the same questin you posted. I just found my manual. This is how tha manual tells you to steam rice:

Place one of the steamer baskets on the steamer base.

Place 1 cup of rice and 10 ozs of water in the rice bowl.

Place the rice bowl on the steamer basket and cover the steamer.

Set timer for approximately 32 minutes, depending on your taste.

Good luck!
