Question about Olympus SP-350 Digital Camera

Camera gets vertical lines in the viewer, then freezes

This happened to me when I first used it, so I thought it might be a bad card or battery, so I changed both. However, the problem has re-occurred. I put in a fresh CRV-3 battery, then tried with fresh AA's and used two different xD cards. Still have the problem. Please help because I need to get the pictures off the card and don't want to have to buy a card-reader and it happens when trying to download.

The lines appear on the screen spontaneously. When the lines appear, all camera function stops.

I will double-check, but I don't thinkit is the case that the grid lines are enabled. The lines are only vertical lines. The lines are not solid, but look more like the pixels in the column are being scrambled. It starts with one line, then others continue to show up in no particular order until the display also freezes. Once one of the lines shows up none of the camera functions work and the only way to restart the camera is to remove the battery.

When you take a picture, do the lines appear on the screen?

If your going through that kind of trouble you should take into a camera store and have them take a look at it.

My camera will take a photo and freeze up after that, please help

Are your batteries good? Bad (old) batteries can cause problems in operation of any device, even if they appear full. Else, is your memory card ok? Try formatting the memory card on your PC, see what happens then. Last thing that comes to my mind is that you could check the camera's manual, maybe there's some way to reset it completely, that might also help!

Try to use you camera to format the card maybe it will be get better, else you can use a card reader to read the card and see if it's all right, or you can try to use the card with other cameras and see if it's OK. It seems your card you have used well for some time, so it won't be the wrong card type. Else you have to check if the card is one of the types which your camera support

Bought new computer, cannot find software for finepix j37 try to download it from website and its saying each time you first need to download finepix viewer and i thought that is what im downloading

You don't have to use Fuji software.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

I do not believe that cd-rom has anything to do with reading an SD card at all. I think if I remember correctly it is a photo album type program and I thought it stinks. Your best bet is getting an SD card reader which some are very cheap on e-bay and fit into a usb slot. You place the card into the reader and it will download your picture files taken with the 80. Your windows program picture viewer or similar should be able to show your pictures on your computer. I personally took out the cd-rom panasonic program and use windows picture viewer or similar

Battery compatibility error, even tho it came with camera!

Try clean contacts of camera for battery and contacts of the battery also, specially the middle one - it is for communication between camera and circuit inside the battery. If the problem persists, try use another battery in your camera, or your battery in other compatible product - you determine this way if the problem is inside the battery (I hope, it is cheaper) or inside the camera.

Camera Keeps freezing/turning off

Sounds like the camera is writing to the CF card. If this is after taking several shots, even worse in continuous mode. That's why it won't shut off or anything, it has to finish that before it will shut down. If you have access to one try a different card. Remember to reformat it in this camera. Page 38 of your manual. If that works for you take the card into a camera shop and ask them if they will do a low format a newer camera like a XSi, then reformat it in your camera again before you use it.
