Question about Mitsubishi WS-65857 65" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

I have a ws 65857 with a picture problem. Intermittently the picture will bow down from the top and up from the bottm. It does not do this from the sides. There is a color separation in the distorted areas as well. It will do it off and on. May last a few seconds to a few minutes. Problem is getting a little worse by the day. The set is very large and a pain to move. 30 years ago I fixed radios on military aircraft and can solder and replace modules. What is the fix for this problem.

Hello, you will need your soldering skills for this one. Try to locate the convergence IC(usually mounted on a heavy aluminum heat dissapator) since this is a mitsu TV I would look for this in the middle board if you have three boards mounted horizontally to the bottom of the service area. The IC or ICs will have a number that start with STK and some numbers, exmple...stk392-110, when you do locate the determined IC, you will have to do some unplugging, make sure you make a diagram of what plugs go where, because you will have to work on the board from the printed circuit(solder side). Once you have the board in a servicing position look under the convergence IC or ICs, you will find several pins that are loose, I would resolder all of them and also look around the whole board to check for other problem areas that might give trouble later. Good luck.

Hi, I know you are aware of this but I will mention it anyway, don't forget to unplug the TV from the AC outlet FIRST. You don't want to end up with another problem.
    good luck

WELL YOUR LIQUID SPILL MAY HAVE BURNT FOIL PATHS OR EATEN UP SOME OTHER SOLDER JOINTS. A CLOSER INSPECTION ON THE AREA INVOLVED SHOULD SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS.

Mitsubishi ws 65857 no picture but screen pulsates. bulbs ok

code 12 indicates no fault. tv probably needs the high voltage board rebuilt, have a shop do it. Maybe you need to check all the connections.

Mitsubishi WS 65857 Picture problem.

Mitsubishi's have been known to "burn in" when you have a stationary image on the screen for too long. Usually its not a problem but in some cases I've seen..if its hours and hours of game play..or even places like home shopping network that have phone numbers that never move during the broadcast...it can cause the image to burn the screen.

The projection tubes would not be burned...it would be the mirror viewing screen.
