They have two separate screws? one for fast, one for slow.for the slow setting, first start the saw then screw until motor runs smooth without chain moving....if to slow the motor will stop....for fast screw....rev motor flat out then adjust so it screams its head off so to will need all its power for cutting wood so don't think you are opening it up to much as its designed for it.

I have a 2005 gmc Yukon how do you adjust the idle

idle is not adjustable Idle is control by IAC valve
if idle is high with a scanner look to data if trottle angle is at 0%
if it is at 1 or 2% this why rpm is high means for pcm trottle plate is open too much. adjust with scanner relearn.
hope it helps

The motor does not respond on full trottle, half and up it just like chokes itself

You need to adjust the high speed mixture on the carburetor. When you say it 'chokes itself' you imply it is too rich.

What is h and l screws for we have been moving them around to try make the saw tick over as it keep cutting out

"H" is high speed and "L" is low speed. Turn both screws in full, then unscrew them one and a half turns each. Start the saw, you may have to adjust the trottle screw to keep it running. Then adjust the "L" screw a little, in or out, with the trottle screw until you are happy with it ticking over. then adjust the "H" screw to get it to run full. You need time and patience. Stephen.
