SOURCE: flicker then display goes black
My samsung syncmaster 225bw when turned on would have the back light stay on for about one second, then go black, with or without the signal cable attached to the computer. After your screen goes black, shine a flash light on the screen to see if you can see any images
I repaired my monitor by replacing several bad electrolitic capacitors on the inverter board. These capacitors had broken bulging leaking vents on ther tops. There were two 820uf 25v and one 330uf 25v electrolitic capacitors that had failed. I ordered from www.digikey.com Panasonic FC series low impedance electrolitic capacitors, However, the 820uf was not curently stocked and had to be backordered, so I got one 1000uf and one 680uf to replace the two 820uf which were in parallel on the board. There were two 680uf 25v on my board which had not yet failed, so I also replaced them. On my monitor, the capacitors can not be longer than 20mm, due to space limitations. These electrolitic capacitors have a life time between 1000 to 5000 hours, so when you order get a few extra of the ones that went bad.

I've had same problem and I fixed it!
With good CCFLs, clean supplying voltages, all good capacitors and resoldered junctions, the backlight still turns on for fraction of second and goes off.
It is in the Power Supply / Inverter board. In the Inverter part there are two dual n/p-MOSFETS U3 and U4 (models STS7C4F30L, SO-8 packages). I've found they both have too high ON-Resistance (perhaps due to age and constant overheating). All you need to do is to replace them. I've checked many models and found closest by Rds and IDcont (continuous drain current) are IRF7389, you can find distributor by findchips.com, but I've bought them at newark.com, they're cheap.
The hardest thing was to unsolder old chips, they are glued to PCB and because of overheated material under them, the copper could easily go apart. Therefore, the best is using fine tips cutters, cut off all legs one by one and then take chip body off the PCB and take legs from pads by iron. That's all you need. After that my monitor started working as new even with old CCFLs. Good Luck!

rcpips, You may need to replace one or possibly 5 -8 aluminum can "electrolytic filter capacitors" on the "switch-mode-power-supply/CCFL inverter board. If, as you say "works for 5 or 6 seconds" then that means that fuse is good. Another thing you will need to inspect SMPS board for is "cold" "frosty looking" solder joints where the components (surface mount or through hole) are soldered to the copper circuit traces. May need large magnifying glass or low power inspection microscope to locate them. Resolder any that look bad or loose. Some solder joints have thinner than "hair" thermal fractures that can also cause YOUR TYPE OF SYMPTOM!! PARTS: digikey. mouser. newark. and possibly Radio Shack. If buying filter capacitors, make sure they are rated 105 deg C only!! NOT 85 deg C!!! If caps need to be replaced (swollen, leaky) be sure to tell us the brand name you find installed on your unit! CAPXON, ELITE, JUN-FU are just 3 that you don"t want to find in your unit. BAD news if you do!! If DIY suits you, remember to document with "close-up" digital stills your unit tear-down, so you can reassemble unit without any "extra" parts laying on kitchen table!! Filter capacitors are polarized. You put them in + to +, - to -!!! if you put them in backwards they go BOOOOMMM!!! Hope this helps a little. lmistyrel on aim or 12fixlouie at fixya.

The picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault and will need to be replace.
I advice you replace the picture board on the screen of your monitor to solve the problem of the blank screen.
