It is somwhow hearteneing to see that someone with the same leaking problem has found this website on the same day I have. The manual says to pour about a cup of hot water down the drain tube (towards the back, just behind a ridge obviously designed to retain some water) every now and then as maintenance. I have done this many times. It used to help, but does not seem to be working anymore. Where does the water go when it drains down that tube?

In back of the refrigerator behind a removable panel you will find a hose going into the drain pan under the refrigerator. Check and make sure there is no obstruction in the hose which would back up water into the freezer. After the drain hose is cleared the freezer should be defrosted and ice cleared from the drain area in the back. You can direct some hot water with some bleach in it through the drain to insure it flows into the pan.

More then likely you have a clogged drain. This is a pain to get to, like most bottom freezer models. You will have to remove everything out of the freezer, remove the door and racks to access the rear freezer panel. Once you get there remove it. You will probably see solid ice forming below the evaporator coil. This is ice from the unit going into a defrost cycle like it should. That is not a problem. The problem is when the ice melts and turns to water it is suppose to drain threw a hole located right below the evaporator in the center. If you have a sheet of ice formed you will need to defrost it to get to the drain hole. You can use hot water. In the industry we de-ice the drain with hot water and then blow it out with a CO2 tank(compressed air tank). This is not my favorite job because it is messy and sometimes long. That ice does not melt fast. Any questions for me go to refrigerator repair and email me anytime.

A sheet of ice has formed on the bottom of the freezer. Why.

There is a drain port in the behind the freezer panel where all of the water drains when your evaporator coils defrost. It has gotten clogged with food, or ice. Thaw all of the ice and unplug the drain hole, and ice will stop forming on the bottom of your freezer.

Up to 1/2 inch solid sheet of ice forms in defrost drain pan in the bottom of the freezer drawer and water runs onto floor. how can it be fixed?

Must thaw out and clean drain leading to under fridge. Check the outlet of this drain in rar of fridge under the compressor panel.

There is a sheet of ice forming in the ice cube tray and a larger one forming on the bottom of the freezer. The GE refrigerator is only 6 months old.

Because the sheet of ice is forming on the ice maker first it leads me to believe the water control valve for the ice maker is leaking water into the ice maker when it should be off. A filter installed before the dual water control valves would also be helpful. If you could find the model number of your refrigerator I would be able to tell you the part number. Sea Breeze

Water leaking and ice in bottom shelf of freezer

Chances are you have a bad seal around the door if it's leaking from the inside which causes the ice to form as well, or if it's leaking from under the freezer you lave a bad heating element that evaporates the water collected in the pan under the freezer or you have a clogged hose that goes to the pan under the freezer which also causes the ice to form because the water has no place to go. Defrost and try to find a way to blow out the hose that goes from your freezer to the pan under the freezer and that should take care of your problem.
