Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

Open Question

My maytag neptune washing machine (mah5500bww), has been great but lately at the end of the wash cycle it seems to be going through its spin cycle but not to its full speed. When it is finished the door disengages but does not beep and the LR code shows. I called customer support and they stated to unplug the machine for about 1/2 hr, and then retry. I did so and got two full loads without any problem, the third load did not and did as initially stated, LR!!!!! The question I have is, do I have to replace motor/motor control board, or master control? Or how do I find out? Please help.

I've had the same problem with a Neptune MAH3000. I replaced the mother board to no avail. I replaced the timer control to no avail. I then replaced the door lock assembly (wax motor, door switch, etc.) and problem solved. Luckily, I had another machine that I could rob parts from.

SOURCE: Maytag Neptune front loader, model

the LR code means "Locked Rotor". when this happens the cause is one of two items. 1) the circuit boardat the top of the unit has lost connection to the motor and its controlboard at the bottom (connector loose) or 2) the motor and or controlboard at the bottom have trashed and need to be replaced (P/N12002039).
Hope that helps,
Thanks,
Lee

SOURCE: CODE SYMBOL " LR" (MAYTAG NEPTUNE SERIAL # MAH6500AWQ")

LR usually means that the the signal from the board is not getting to the motor either because of a bad connection at either the motor or the board or the motor itself is no good. Need to check the connections first.

SOURCE: Maytag Neptune MAH5500BWW fills with water but

It is possible for the water level/pressure switch to go bad. Other cause would be a faulty selector switch. You can test either one with an ohmmeter to see if it is faulty.

SOURCE: maytag mah5500bww motor/control board failure recall

I had Maytag ship a new motor and motor control board for free and installed it myself in less than an hour. There is a ten year warranty on those parts. You just have to be very firm and insist you have warranty rights by law!

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washers No Spin Problem

A class suit was filed in the State of Illinois, USA and then later on won against Maytag in 2004 due to the high failure rate of the wax motor used in the door lock mechanism of their Neptune Front Load Washers. The wax motor is used to activate the door lock switch by extending its shaft when a voltage from the machine control is applied across its terminals. Its failure then leads to the breaking down of components in the expensive machine control board. This is the fact that angered the customers which led to the filing of the class suit.

The obvious symptom of a failed wax motor is the inability of the washer to advance to the spin cycle and the door lock lamp is not turned on. The washer stops momentarily at the end of the wash cycle then continue to tumble as the machine control checks the activation of the door lock switch. The control will not allow a spin speed higher than 51 revolutions per minute (RPM) unless the door lock switch is activated by the wax motor. It is a safety feature of the washer to prevent accident due to accidental opening of the washer door during a high speed spin.

Customers who purchased the Neptune Front Load Washers in the USA after April 1, 1997 and before August 9, 2004 are Class members and eligible for the repair reimbursement, replacement cost, or purchase certificate depending on the length of service of the machine. Call up Maytag at 1-888-MAYTAG (1-888-629824) for more information.

The models included in the class suit are as follows: MLE2000AYW, MLE2000AWW, MLE2000AZW, MLG2000AWW (Gas Stack Unit), MAH3000AAW, MAH3000AEW, MAH3000AGW, MAH3000AWA, MAH3000AWW, MAH3000BGW, MAH4000AWW, MAH4000BWW, MAH4000AWQ, MAH4000BWQ, MAH5500AWW, MAH5500BWW, MAH5500BWW, MAH5500BWQ, MAH55FLBWW, MAH55FLBWQ, MAH6500AWW, MAH6500AWQ, MAH7500AWW, MAH7500AWQ, MAH7550AAW, MAH7550AGW.

Maytag neptune mah5500bbw wont spin going through cycle

My Maytag Neptune MAH5500B or MAH5500BWW wouldn't spin either. It would go all the way through the wash cycle, agitation and all, as mentioned before, the spin cycle would start at the 9 minute mark, and get down to the 7 minutes then drop directly to 0 with no spin at all.

After hours of investigation it turned out the balance load switch was corroded. This switch is accessible through the front panel of the washer. The door must be removed and the front panel comes off, this switch is directly under the wash drum where there is a little electrical plug and switch which rests on top of stabilizer styrofoam. The connection was being made but there was green corrosion, and evidently the switch box was corroded within. When bypassed, the washer spun perfectly.

Hope this helps someone else out there - I was horrified to think that this washer would end up more landfill as it wouldn't be worthwhile to pay hundreds for a new motor control board as had been suggested was the problem.

Very loud spin cycle

The link below, courtesy of www.repairclinic.com, shows that the rear bearing comes with the outer tub only and is very pricey! I have been unable to find a service agency that offers just the bearing. Very aggravating. www.maytag.com would be a good place to define your issue.

MAYTAG NEPTUNE FRONT LOAD WASHER MAH5500BWW

Central bearing and seal are damaged. Very expensive repair and very expensive parts. Maytag does not sell bearings separately, they're only available with the outer tub, which is $400-$500; Repair itself is another 2-3 hours of hard work. Do the math...
