Well I have seen this problem occur due to faulty BIOS. So here's the plan. First lets make sure that its not a hardware problem. Disconnect the cables powering the USB ports(cables of one port at a time). Be careful the cables go onto pins and you do not want to bend/break them. If a particular port is not the source of the problem then move on to the next one. Repeat until you find the faulty one. If there is any recent change that you have made in your system hardware, then let me know.

I need you to provide me with some background details so that we can solve the problem.

Have you build this pc yourself?
does this message come on the screen the instant you turn the power on or does the computer start up to windows and give you the error message?

Have you done a bios update recently?

what did you do before the problem appeared did you change anything just before it came up?

does this error come up even if you remove all usb devices from the computer?

Please answer all of the above questions so that we can solve the problem.
I will answer to your messages as soon as I can, please be patient its email support not instant message support.

Its possible that there is a short happening on the mainboard, it might not be seated properly, some of the pins might be touching the metal casing that are not supposed to be touching.

Also if you connected any extra usb ports to the connectors on the mainboard disconnect all of them, leaving you with only the usb ports in the back of the computer.

  • Ekse Nov 06, 2010

let me know once you have done that - if the problem remains, well then you would have to take a close look at the mainboard, that its not touching the metal casing, it should be standing on gold or metal feet that take a screw on top of them, if you forgot a few feet on the edge of the board it shouldn't be a problem but if the mainboard is touching the casing its probably causing the problem.

post me the specs of your computer, brand and model of mainboard and what parts you got on it.

olkay, let me know if it comes back

USB Over Current Status Detected, Computer will shut down in 15 seconds

this message popped up because one of the device which you connected to the usb of the pc was overdrawing current i.e more than 5V DC. Hence, the built in system security gave this message and will shut down your computer in 15 seconds. In order to avoid this message first remove all the usb items connected to it and then connect one by one and detect the faulty one and replace.

When the computer is booting these words appears usb device over current status detected, and then after 15 seconds the computer is shut down

A USB device is drawing too much power so the system crashes. Remove all devices attached to USB and try again. If it's the same then remove all external USB ports - the ones connected with wires to the motherboard. If it's the same then there's a short in the motherboard - unfixable, replace it with a new one.

System shutdown in 15 seconds

Shut the power down to the computer all the power and pull the power cord out, remove all usb devices except the mouse and keyboard, Turn the unit back on and see if this fixes the problem, if it doesn't then you will have to go into the computer and clear the c-mos this will allow you to get into the bios screen from there you can set up the computer again. Check you manual for the instructions on bios reset, most times it is just pins 2+3 that need to have a jumper installed to reset it. READ THE MANUAL PINS 2+3 APPEAR ON MANY THINGS ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD

SYSTEM ERROR

1) if you have nothing in a USB port you will need to set bios
Try removing M/board battery for 2 to 3 hours some people say less then replace it most times it should set BIOS back to default
also check setup of hard disks master slave etc

Last resort with 15 seconds you should be able to see
press ?? key to access BIOS next boot keep pressing key see if that works

Cmos checksum bad...usb current status detected system shut down 15 sec

Situation Remedies If you have encountered this error and would like to fix your computer, here are some remedies for each situation:
CMOS Battery Not Functioning Properly: If you suspect your CMOS battery is not functioning properly you can easily change it. Before changing your battery, reboot your computer to make sure that the error still exists. If it does, go into your CMOS and write down all of the settings. If all settings are lost, you can usually get them from your computer manufacturer. Now locate the battery and remove it, you might need to consult your computers manual or tech support to remove your battery. Take down the CMOS batteries information such as volt, size, etc. Once you have your new battery, you can replace it and reenter your CMOS settings. If your battery was the cause of the CMOS Checksum Bad Error, you should have remedied the problem.
Your BIOS has Been Updated (either by you or possibly a virus): If your BIOS has been updated recently, your CMOS settings may have become reset. Make sure that the values entered in the BIOS are correct or simply reset them to the default settings. If you believe that a virus updated your BIOS settings, run a virus scan and make sure that the BIOS settings are back to the default.
The Computer Was Shut Down Improperly: Sometimes when running MS Windows, if you shut down your laptop or desktop without first properly shutting down your operating system it will corrupt the CMOS settings causing the CMOS Checksum Bad Error. You can easily avoid this error by making sure that you completely shut down your computer before turning off the power. Usually this entails going into the Start Menu/ Turn Off Computer/ Shut Down. If you received the error, shut down the computer properly, if this is the cause of the error, the error message will not return.
