Question about Sanyo PLC XF10NZ Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

I have a sanyo PLC-XF10NZ. It will not turn on. It is plugged in, connected to the computer, the lamp & ready lights are on, and it worked last night. When I try to turn it on it makes the 'start' clicking sound but does not activate the bulb. Any ideas?

I have tried to reset it using the power button. The bulb was replaced around 3-months ago and has been working fine. The 'replace bulb' light has not come on yet. It is making the very distinct clicking sound every time I try to turn it on.

Last question for you, what is your best guess as to what a general repair visit would cost from an A/V specialist?

Hi there, there are only a couple of things that can go wrong when you fit a re.placement lamp. I would suggest removing the new lamp you have just fitted and reseat it, making sure that everything is how it should be. The fact that you have not mentioned the lamp life warning light being on makes me think that the projector is certainly detecting a new bulb, it all depends what system it uses. After you have reconnected everything, try turning on the main power switch and then hold down the power button to try and reset the projector. If this does not work then it seems likely that you have maybe a faulty bulb, which is not uncommon.

See how you get on with the above

Thank you for using FixYa

Ok, if it is making that sound then it is trying to energize the bulb. The only other thing it could be is the control board for the lamp. If the lamp control becomes faulty then this would explain why it is clicking but not energizing. I am afraid to say it but it sounds like this is going to need a specialist repair and wont be something you can do yourself. Unless you are quite electronically minded taking it apart and having a look will not really do any good but it might be worth a go just to double check no wires have come loose inside. If you do decide to do this, please use caution and make sure all power is disconnected from the projector!!

I dont know of any myself, you could always try the manufacturer and see what they say? Sometimes I surprise myself with the prices they quote. Give it a go, cant do any harm

I would say there would probably be a set fee to look at it, around $50 I would imagine, then of course there would be parts if needed. Unfortunately projectors can be very very expensive to repair. If the bulb is relatively new you might want to have a look on ebay for a projector that has the bulb gone, you could buy that very cheaply and then put your bulb in it. Obviously make sure your bulb is compatible first. That would probably be the way I would go rather than spend a fortune on repairs.

    Hope this helps

More than likely one of the fans is not running. That could be because of a blown in-circuit fuse or a bad fan motor.

I have a Sanyo plc-xt25 LCD Projector and when I plug my ac cord in, the fans turn on but no lamp comes on. I changed the lamp and still no picture. What do I do?

Every projector lamp is equipped with ballast. The problem area is ballast. Either the ballast is not getting DC supply or the lamp turn ON signal from the projector main board or the ballast is faulty. Remove the lamp. Connect the projector to the mains supply. Check the voltage at the lamp connector inside the projector without turning it ON. It should be around 65 volts A/C. (Warning: Multimeter will get damaged if the projector power is turned ON due to generation of high voltage) If you find this 65 volts then it confirms that it has DC supply & the ballast is functioning. The ballast receives the the turn ON signal from microcontroller through opto-coupler on the ballast. The ballast opto-coupler can be checked by providing external 5V DC supply between pin 3 (+ve) & 4 (-ve) in turn switches ON the lamp. If this works then there is no problem with your lamp & ballast. The problem lies with the main board. If this does not solve your problem then give me the feedback.

Sanyo plc-xt10a will not power up. ready light is not on. power to unit is good.

First, check the lamp/lamp door--the door has a safety interlock that prevents power from getting to the projector. Make sure the power *is* getting to the unit by using a known-good power cord. Also, check the 3 air filters. If one or more was clogged with dust, the unit might have had a thermal sensor trip. There is also an internal fuse on the power supply which may have blown. When was the last time the projector worked correctly? Have there ever been any power problems related to that unit before? If the above checks yield no success, the projector will have to be repaired at a service facility. Hope I was of some help---Rick

Starts to power on,then shuts down

Have you checked the filters? I have a Sanyo PLV-75 and had a similar problem.  The normal fan would come on when the unit was first started, then after a few seconds the secondary fan came on and then the unit would shut down.  Called tech support and they asked if I had cleaned the filters. I did it, and it worked great.  Check the manual for where the filters are and hit them first before getting a new bulb.  Hope it helps!
