Question about HP Pavilion dv5-1000us Notebook PC

1 Answer

The problem of my hp pavilion dv5 is this, i want my laptop to be back on its original state so i tried system restore. i have my recovery discs aside from the built-in recovery partition. i inserted the recovery disc1 on the cd drive of my laptop, restarted it and began to uninstall all the programs i have installed. a command in the screen "insert disc 2" appears so i inserted the recovery disc 2. i waited for the cd drive to read the disc 2 of my recovery but after 10 minutes there is no progress in uninstalling the programs. waited another 5 minutes and again nothing happen so i eject the drive and fix the cd and tried again, unfortunately nothing happened. i just pres the power button to repeat what i'm doing but when i start it, the message on the black screen appears "BOOT MGR IS MISSING, press ctrl+alt delete to restart" so i did it. again nothing happens when i press to restart, always showing that boot mgr is missing. what can i do? please help me

You have formatted the hard drive (containing Boot Manager) using recovery disk 1.
That's why the error message.

Just insert disk 1 again.
Shut down the computer (press & hold the power button for a minute).
Restart.

Follow the instructions that come up.

If it doesn't help, reseat the hard drive. (open the back cover, take out hard drive, reconnect it)
Also you may go to BIOS (tap F1 while booting) and set the cd-drive as the first boot device.

Hope it helps.

HP provides a recovery solution on a separate area of the hard drive. If the hard drive is still functional, you can still perform an HP system recovery from the hard drive as long as the recovery information has not been destroyed or corrupted.
To do a software recovery from the hard drive, turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key until "Windows is loading files..." displays on the screen. If your computer originally came with Windows XP or earlier, press F10 to enter recovery instead of F11.

the first job when you get a new pc is to create recovery discs. not doing so is totally foolish.
you cannot download them, you have to pay HP for a set of recovery discs for your machine if you couldn't be bothered to do it yourself.
