While the VISTA sidebar can be a helpful tool in the home environment, in the business world it is often viewed as a resource hog which needs to be removed.
In order to keep the sidebar from starting on a computer in VISTA, click on the start menu and open a ren dialog. Type gpedit.msc and hit enter. This will bring up the local GPO snap in. Under the heading Local Computer Policy, expand the section labeled Administrative Templates and then expand Windows Components. In this section you will find a folder named Windows Sidebar. In the Right hand window, double click on the option labeled Turn Off Windows Sidebar and check Enable. Click OK and restart your computer. That's it! Now everyone who logs into that computer will have the sidebar turned off by default.
Is it a detached Weather gadget from your Windows Sidebar? If you have the Windows Sidebar icon on your Notification area (system tray), right click on it then click "Open"(or Bring gadget to front). Your Sidebar should appear on the Desktop. If you don't have the Temperature gadget showing click on the "+" sign on the top of the sidebar. Double click on the Weather gadget. Then you can drag it to a location you want on the Desktop (or you can right click > Detache from Sidebar). To change the current temperature location, right click > Options, type your location on the "Search for location" box.
( OR )
If it is NOT a 3rd party gadget that you downloaded from the web, then just click the + sign at the top of the sidebar ( sometimes it's on the side ), a popup box will open up, showing a list of gadgets. Tempwerature shold be there. Right click at it > click Add. It will re-appear at the sidebar.
