Question about Maytag Refrigerators

1 Answer

Hello, we have an RSW2400E. We recently moved and took our refrigerator with us. We left the refrigerator off for 24 hours and then turned it on. The refrigerator does not get very cold and the food in the bottom of the freezer began defrosting. The panel that splits the refrigerator from the freezer is extremely hot. Is this fixable? Thank you.

This sounds like someone may have knocked the condensor fan motor connector loose or bent a fan blade on the condensor fan in the process of moving it. Open the back of the unit and check the fan blade to see if it turns freely. Clear any obstructions. If there are no obstructions check the connector on the condensor fan motor. The key here you said it was working pre move and post move this statement is a dead give-away for a condensor fan problem: The panel that splits the refrigerator from the freezer is extremely hot. You can most likely fix this yourself.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

My refrigerator wont work after laying it down to move it. What should I do?

I've done that before and there's no hope for it. Once you laid it down the freon got a air pocket in the compressor and it will no longer work. Guy from sears told me that laying them down ruins them.

Stopped working

If you transported it on its side then you have air bubbles in the compressor. Most of the time the air bubbles will move to its proper place in 8-24 hours of it setting upright. However, you might have done dame to the compressor if you applied power and left it on. Suggest you unplug and let set for 24 hours and then try it again.

Fridge&freezer are cold but runs constantly

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
  • Defrost the freezer
  • Clean the condensor coils
  • Check the door seals
  • Test the door switch
  • If you recently adjusted the temperature control, loaded the refrigerator or are in a humid location, it is not uncommon for a refrigerator to run for 24 hours or more before getting cool.

We move my refrigerator and it was laid down for about 2 hours we plug it up when we got home now it won't get cold, how long will it take to start getting cold it been about 2 days now

It shuld never be layed down for transport or storage. 2 Hours is not a long time but you should have left it upright overnight before plugging in. turn it off for 24 hours. When you restart it it should be cooling in a few hours and at normal temp in 24-48. If not you may have damaged the compressor. (Assuming you hear it running)

I need to know if it is possible to transport side by side refrigerators laying flat. or almost flat. This will be a short move for about 1/2 hour.

Hello, Yes you can move your side by side laying on it's back..it is most important though that when you have it in it's new place you leave it unpluged for 24 hours so the oils can run back into the compressor. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment again...Mike

    Fridge not staying cold

did you let the fridge stay in it's new place for 24 hours up right before turning it on?
Try turning it off for at least 24 hours and start it back up again.
If you moved it on its side the compressor oil flows into the lines and must beable to drain back down before using it.
If not you'll seeze the compressor.
    not good.
