Question about Sony DSCWX5 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I thought batteries were low. Replaced. Camera will not "boot up". The power lite comes on. It , however, immediately goes off. I replaced batteries 3 times, but now the lens will not retract when the power light goes off.

Check to be sure you have put the batteries in correctly. Sometimes with wear, you may have to reinsert them. Also, depending on where you got your batteries, such as a bargain place or a discount store, the batteres may not be good or good enough. Digital cameras take a stronger battery than most cameras.

Do you remember to use the "safely remove hardware" function when you disconnect? Most times, nothing goes wrong but it only takes once for your current problem to happen. My advice would be to reset the camera. The "reset"command can usually be found in the camera menu.

Battery low indicator on Canon Powershot A470 camera is always on

You're using alkaline batteries. No matter how much you pay for alkaline type batteries, they just cannot cope with the amount of power that a digital camera needs - especially an older model. Use a type called lithium AA, energiser make a very good version. You can usually buy them in camera shops, and they can be a little pricier, but the camera will take between 300-500 photos per set, so worth it. If thats not possible I would suggest using rechargable batteries with a charger - the higher the number the stronger the battery. 2100mAh to 2900mAh should be okay for a camera, and the best type is niMH (not niCD). Good luck.

Camera turns on then immediately turns off

Quick turnoff is normally a symptom of low battery power. Make sure that you have fresh/charged batteries in the camera. If fresh power doesn't solve the problem you will need professional service on the camera.

Zoom goes out and immediately comes back .not able to switch on!!

The problem you are describing is a problem with a sensor in the lens assembly of the camera. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.

http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_servicerepair.asp

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $61 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

Screen goes black when power cord is plugged in.

Start by checking the power supply with an ohm meter for the proper output. Anything higher or low than one volt means the supply is faulty and will need replaced. This could also be a battery issue, if a fail safe in the battery has engaged. Try removing the battery and see if it works properly on the supply only, if so, then the battery will need replaced. If these two check good, then I'm afraid the problem is with the power management system on the motherboard, and unfortunately the motherboard Will have to be replaced.

Cannot Boot

Removing the cmos battery isn't always enough to reset the bios you may need to find the 'JBAT1' terminal on the mobo and put jumper across pins 2-3 then back to 1-2. But it may be a faulty mobo where the charger connects to the board.
