Lift-Off Pet Hair vacuum doesn't lift off pet hair!

posted by Lots a Hair on Jun 14, 2008

This vacuum has difficulty with suction of dog hair and collection. The hair gets sucked up but stays up around the foam filter area instead of dropping down into the collection container. I have rinsed off the foam filter and allowed it to totally dry before putting it back on. There are no clogs in the hose, or inlet near the roller. The long, filter on the back of the unit likely needs to be replaced, but I don't know if it has anything at all to do with the issue. Regardless, it's not working and I need my house vacuumed! Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for trying. Sadly, that's why I bought the vacuum that advertised it is especially made for pet hair. I went on the Bissell site and found that I have three filters, I only knew of two. There is a filter in a drawer located under the collection container. The filter can be washed and dried, then returned to the vacuum. It fixed the problem of the hair not dropping down to the collection container and hanging out around the motor. I really appreciate you helping out like this, you are likely correct. My mom has an Electrolux cannister vacuum that's about 40 years old and it is WONDERFUL with pet hair.

very light "stuff" like dog hair will get stuck to the filter since that is where the suction goes. it's primary purpose was to keep dust out of the motor. This is a problem with many "bagless" cleaners. A bagged cleaner keeps all dirt and hair away from filters by utilizing the bag as primary filter. If you have alot of dog hair then this may have been the incorrect choice of a vac. all you can do is brush off the filter each time you use the vac. it will still pick up o.k. even when there is hair on the filter unless you leave it on day after day.
