Okay an AGP video card will go into a brown slot but not all computers have one, especially dells. The computer should automatically detect when a new video card is inserted and run off of it bypassing the onboard video. If you do have a brown slot and it's different than the connection of the video card you purchased, then you need a PCI express video card. This slot can be other colors as well. If you don't have a PCIe slot then you need a PCI video card that will go into one of the available white slots on your motherboard.

That being said, when you said the colors weren't great, what exactly did that mean? You may just have needed to tell the computer to display in high quality (32 bit) or change the options in the game to do so.

Okay I've looked up your specs and what you have is an AGP 4x slot. Even though the card you have may have an extra slot in it, it should still fit and the 8x speed will automatically downgrade itself. So as long as you can put it in your computer without forcing it, it should work :c)

Just go a dell precision 380 hook up for the monitor has 3 prongs and the computer has 2 what do I need to hook it up.

On the left side are different views. I am looking at the REAR view

At the Bottom, of the Rear of the computer, are 6 expansion slot openings.
Two of the expansion slot openings have an adapter card in them.
The other 4 are covered with an expansion slot cover. (Metal)

One of the adapter cards is a Graphics Card.

Looking at the Back of the computer, and from Left to Right;
there is a;

1) S-Video port
Black in color, round in shape

2) DVI port
White in color, parallelogram in shape

3) VGA port
Blue in color, parallelogram in shape

This article shows a graphics card with the same setup,

S-Video,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Video

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Video-Connectors-Tutorial/157/4

You can use the S-Video port, or the VGA port, or the DVI port; to connect a monitor.
However out of all three, the DVI port is the best.

VGA is Analog.
Your computer puts out a digital signal. (Digital video signal)

DVI is Digital Visual Interface. In otherwords - Digital.
Therefore DVI is the best.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface

Armed with the above information, can you clarify more about your problem?

For example;

Monitor cable has three prongs........

Using the above information, can you tell me what monitor cable it is?

Computer has two...........

Can you tell me where on the computer, you are trying to plug the monitor into?

Please post back in a Comment.

My monitor gives 16-bit color at 640x480, but will only offer 256 colors at 1024x768 -- and only displays 16 colors when I select that... In order to access resolution options, I have to go into Advanced...

The monitor has no influence here - something is wrong with your video card: either its driver is missing (or corrupted) or the video chip has failed.
Uninstall all the drivers for the video(except the generic VGA one), from Programs and Device Manager
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/f/open-device-manager-windows-7.htm
and reboot several times then go to Dell
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
select your pc and get the correct driver.
If that doesn't fixes it then the video chip has failed, you will need to buy a new video card.

I have a Gateway E2000 pc....monitor and pc are not communicating...I hear windows boot up so the pc is working. I've changed cables that worked for a while. Now I'm thinking I need a new video...

Not sure how reputable these guys are, but here's something at least...

Also, make sure that you're buying PCI cards, and not PCI-e.

Hey i want to connect my 10.1 inch eee asus netbook to my tv but i dont kno wut kind of cord i need..my tv only has the three color input holes in the front which is for like xbox or playstation...

to do this you need something like what i have found on following link: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=216726645&listingid=101266845. Once you have this you just need a rca or s-video cable that has 1 male on one end and red, yellow and white on other side and can find it in any tv/pc store like best buy or radioshack. u might be able to find that adapter in same stores, just ask for vga to tv adapter and tell the you only have rca connect on your tv. Good luck

Get a video card as was recommended by EA. You have a PCI-E slot (also known as PCI-X or PCI-Express). You should be able to find one in the $80 range at any Best Buy or Fry's that will work.

Unable to get on the internet. in device manager network adapters not working. Tried to update, and install from resorce c/d. still not working

your adapter might have burned out. easy thing to do is goto best buy, and buy a new network adapter card. last time i bought one it was around $15 bucks. then disable your current network adapter turn the computer off and then read the directions for installing the new one. the other way would be to download the drivers from dells website from another computer, save on a CD and then try to install them, but i would bet your network adapter just fried but your comp still says its there.

AMI BIOS Beep Codes

1 Short Beep One beep is good! Everything is ok, that is if you see things on the screen. If you don't see anything, check your monitor and video card first. Is everything connected? If they seem fine, your motherboard has some bad chips on it. First reset the SIMM's and reboot. If it does the same thing, one of the memory chips on the motherboard are bad, and you most likely need to get another motherboard since these chips are soldered on.
2 Short Beeps Your computer has memory problems. First check video. If video is working, you'll see an error message. If not, you have a parity error in your first 64K of memory. First check your SIMM's. Reseat them and reboot. If this doesn't do it, the memory chips may be bad. You can try switching the first and second banks memory chips. First banks are the memory banks that your CPU finds its first 64K of base memory in. You'll need to consult your manual to see which bank is first. If all your memory tests good, you probably need to buy another motherboard.
3 Short Beeps Basically the same thing as 2 beeps. Follow that diagnosis above.
4 Short Beeps Basically the same thing as 2 beeps. Follow that diagnosis above. It could also be a bad timer
5 Short Beeps Your motherboard is complaining. Try reseating the memory and rebooting. If that doesn't help, you should consider another motherboard. You could probably get away with just replacing the CPU, but that's not too cost-effective. Its just time to upgrade!
6 Short Beeps The chip on your motherboard that controls your keyboard (A20 gate) isn't working. First try another keyboard. If it doesn't help, reseat the chip that controls the keyboard, if it isn't soldered in. If it still beeps, replace the chip if possible. Replace the motherboard if it is soldered in.
7 Short Beeps Your CPU broke overnight. Its no good. Either replace the CPU, or buy another motherboard.
8 Short Beeps Your video card isn't working. Make sure it is seated well in the bus. If it still beeps, either the whole card is bad or the memory on it is. Best bet is to install another video card.
9 Short Beeps Your BIOS is bad. Reseat or Replace the BIOS.
10 Short Beeps Your problem lies deep inside the CMOS. All chips associated with the CMOS will likely have to be replaced. Your best bet is to get a new motherboard.
11 Short Beeps Your problem is in the Cache Memory chips on the motherboard. Reseat or Replace these chips.
1 Long, 3 Short Beeps You've probably just added memory to the motherboard since this is a conventional or extended memory failure. Generally this is caused by a memory chip that is not seated properly. Reseat the memory chips.
1 Long, 8 Short Beeps Display / retrace test failed. Reseat the video card.
