Hi,

Below is the steps to resolve the issue:

CAUSE: Software that is not Windows Vista capable (such as printer software, CD burning software, and games) may have modified the registry to cause the optical drive to not function.

RESOLUTION: Method 1: Remove the program that caused the issue: If you know which program might be the cause of the issue or the last program you installed, remove the program.

  1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, click Uninstall a Program.
  3. In the Programs and Features window, click to select the program to remove, and then click Uninstall/Change.
  4. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
  5. Follow all onscreen instructions to complete the removal.
  6. Shut down and restart the computer after removal is complete.
Note: Determine whether the computer is working properly. If the issue is resolved, do not load this software again because it will cause the optical drive not to function again. Instead, contact the software manufacturer for a Windows Vista™ capable version.
If removing the program did not resolve the issue, use System Restore. Method 2: Use System Restore to restore to a date before you installed the third party software.
  1. Close any open programs.
  2. From the Windows Vista™ default Start menu, click All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then click System Restore. Note: System Restore can also be opened by typing Start Search keyword: rstrui.
  3. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
  4. In the System Restore dialog box, click Recommended restore, and then click Next.
View Picture Note: If a different restore point is needed, select Choose a different restore point, and then click Next. Select a day and time from the list when the computer was working properly, and then click Next.
    View Picture
  5. In the Confirm your restore point dialog box, click Finish.
    View Picture
  6. In the System Restore dialog box, click Yes. The computer restarts and make the appropriate changes.
    View Picture
  7. After the computer returns to Windows, in the System Restore dialog box, click Close.
    View Picture
Note: Determine whether the computer is working properly. If the issue is resolved, do not load this software again because it will cause the optical drive not to function again. Instead, contact the software manufacturer for a Windows Vista™ capable version. Method 3: If System Restore did not resolve the issue, manually modify the registry.
  1. From the Windows Vista default Start menu, point to All Programs, Accessories, and then click Run.
  2. In the Run dialog box, type: Regedit. Click OK.
  3. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
  4. In the Registry Editor window, locate and then click to select the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
  5. From the File menu, click Export.
  6. In the File name dialog box, type: Savedkey, and then click Save.
  7. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters file, and then from the Edit menu, click Delete. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  8. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters file, and then from the Edit menu, click Delete. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  9. In the Registry Editor window, from the File menu, click Exit.
  10. Shut down Windows® and restart the computer.
Thanks and regards,
Anil.B.R

How do I open my dvd drive on my laptop?

If you are using Windows on your computer go to the "My Computer" or "This PC" folder where you can see all removable disks and drives. If you are using a newer version of Windows, this should be a folder icon on the bottom of your desktop.
Once you have reached this folder, right click on the drive that appears to be a disk. Select "Eject"

Pardon my ignorance but i am just a beginner. Can i watch a movie cd on my new Acer Laptop and if so what are the steps? Unfortunately no manual came with the laptop.Thank you!

Put the CD in the optical drive of the Acer laptop.

{ CD/DVD drive. Just push the button on the outside of the drive, and the optical drive tray will come out partway. Then Gently pull the tray out all the way.

Close the optical drive tray. (Gently push the tray back into the laptop)
If after a few seconds the movie doesn't start, go to My Computer, and DOUBLE-click on the drive letter associated with the optical drive. (CD/DVD drive)

(May be drive letter D: or E:}

[ Windows XP:
Left-click on Start, then My Computer

Windows Vista and Windows 7:
Left-click on the Windows logo button, then on Computer,
{The Windows logo button took the place of Start ]

If this doesn't do it, post back in a Comment.
(Believe upper right of your page is the blue Comment 'button')

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

State the Model Number of your Acer laptop, and I will give you a link to a free User Manual, from Acer Support.

( The Model Number is on the bottom of the laptop in a white sticker. It is above the Serial Number.
Do Not give out the Serial Number on a public forum such as this. Only to an authorized Acer dealer, or repair shop. S/N = Serial Number )

My laptop's dvd writer does not works. it doesn't read or write any dvd/cd disk. please give me a possible solution... pramod kumar

Check to see if your laptop recognizes it. Right click on 'My Computer' and go to properties. Click Hardware and go to Device Manager. Click on CD/DVD and see if you see yours in there. If not, you will need to get drivers for it.

If you see it, try restarting the laptop. Aside from taking the laptop apart to reseat the drive, it will need to be replaced.

It's actually a manufacturing problem. The dvd metal case atually touches the the interior metal case of the laptop causing a shortcircuit. Solution: Remove The DVD drive from its place by removing the screw of the drive from the back of laptop and then pull the drive gently out from the laptop case. At the end of DVD case you can see the metalic extension, with a little hole. Cover that entire area with something, i used a sticker, but let that hole free, so you can put the screw back in once you put the DVD drive back in to the laptop case. That's it. If your DVD drive has no other defects, it should work

My Cd-Rom doesnt work for my Acer Notebook 2930

Did it give any error code, like Error code 39? And does the DVD/CD Drive appear in My Computer?

Normally the CD drives use the default Windows drivers. Try right clicking the HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA T50N ATA Device in Device Manager and choose uninstall. Then reboot the computer and Windows will find the device and re-install drivers automatically.

If you are still getting the error, it may be an update or some other program that added data to the DVD's driver data in the registry. Try this:

1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type "regedit" (without the quotations) and press Enter. Back up (File > Export) the registry before you make any changes)

3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  • SYSTEM
  • CurrentControlSet
  • Control
  • Class
  • Left Click and Highlight: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} **Make sure you choose this exact key**
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

  • UpperFilters
  • LowerFilters
  • UpperFilters.bak
  • LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed on the right hand side, right-click on them and choose Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

7) Reboot your computer

8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

Dvd driver

go into My computer and make sure its recognizing your dvd drive. If its not then you'll need to turn off your laptop and reseat the drive could be that its not making a good connection. If it is being shown in my computer and it can't read any dvd's then the drive is bad and would need to be replaced.

Cd rom not working

Please try the instructions provided in the third post of this thread.

I am not allowed to copy/paste content from other websites and thus must link you to it in order to comply with the site's terms of service.

However, hopefully that will solve your problem. Otherwise, it will be very, very hard to find a driver for Matshita drives, since Panasonic (which makes the Matshita cd/dvd drives) apparently abandoned all drivers and firmware for drives not currently being manufactured.

Thank you, Please rate if this was helpful.
