Desktop hp will not show picture monitor goes to sleep when powered on.

It looks like your bios is frozen. Well eighter that or a bad processor. So lets try this.. UNPLUG THE SYSTEM FIRST.. ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT DO NOT REMOVE THE PROCESSOR OR HEATSINK FOR IT.. Do that only if the first attempt fails

1.) Remove the side panel of the main board,

2.) Locate the Rams, remove it,

3.) locate the battery and remove it,

4.) Locate the processor heat sink and remove it, followed by the processor.

5.) press and hold the power button for 10 seconds

6.) Replace all the parts

7.) Turn it on.

8.) restore default bios settings and save it.

Should my fan run all the time on desktop dimension

Yes, the computer case fan, and the Power Supply fan should run constantly.

If this is in reference to a Dimension 5150, there is one computer case fan in the front. This fan pushes air through a plastic tuned port, (Shroud), onto the Heatsink, which sits on top of the Processor.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim5150/en/sm/index.htm

The above link is to Dell Support, and the Service Manual for the Dimension 5150.
Technical Overview shows the inside of the computer.

Processor's have a thermal limit. Once they exceed this thermal limit, or temperature, the Processor turns off. (BIOS turns it off)
This is a Fail safe feature built-in to keep the Processor from burning up.

Desktop computer fans run all the time, unlike laptops.
However the fans should not run at full speed all the time.

If your desktop computer fan sounds like a 'jet engine' constantly, there may be internal hardware problems, for one.

1) It may be that the thermal paste has dried up.

The top of a Processor's case, and the bottom of a Heatsink are not perfectly smooth.
There are 'Pits, Hills, and Valleys'.

The above mentioned imperfections cause a void. This void is an air pocket.
Air is an Insulator, not a Conductor.

Thermal paste fills these voids, and is an excellent conductor of heat. Transfers the heat from the top of the Processor's case, to the bottom of the Heatsink.

Example of a typical Heatsink/Fan combo,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3451342&CatId=493

The Heatsink is the finned aluminum looking object under the fan.
(The Dimension 5150 does not use this kind of Heatsink/Fan setup. I included the link to show a typical Heatsink. The front computer case fan, pushes air through a plastic shroud which encases the Heatsink, in a Dimension 5150)

Solution is to Thoroughly clean the top of the Processor's case, and the bottom of the Heatsink, and correctly apply fresh, new thermal paste. (Average cost of thermal paste for this application is $6)

[NOTE*
Observe Anti-Static Precautions!]

2) If the inside of the computer is dirty, as well as the inside of the Power Supply, this will also cause the cooling fan/s to race at high speed.

Solution is to use a can, or two of compressed air for computers, and clean the inside of the computer, (Especially the fins on the Heatsink), and the inside of the Power Supply.

[Again, observe Anti-Static Precautions]

When I presss the power button computer screen stays blank. cannot power processor off.

Something is wrong with the connection wire between your power button and the main board if you pressed the power button on the computer box for a few seconds and still the computer won't turn off. You can open the case and check the connection and replace the wire, or the power button or the main board if necessary. However, you can use the shutdown option of the operating system to turn off your computer too and the reset button might still work besides that issue if you only need to restart while system get frozen.

Hello,
It sounds like you may be having a processor or a memory problem here. Since it's easier to change memory than processor, get a professional to change first your memory with a working one. If problem persists, then change your processor with a working to see the results. You may have to check also whether the fan sitting on your processor heat sink is working well.

All the best.

Acer Aspire M1100 beeps once occasionally, especially if screen 'frozen' and trying to get cursor to respond or scroll screen

The beep is a system fault beep. It is usually caused when your processor is acting at 100% and can't accept any more process at the moment. When you try to get the computer to do more than what it is, you will get a beep letting you know you have to wait.

Acer m5640 windows vista premium home won't boot, no screen image, mouse and keyboard won't light up when connected via usb, cursor frozen on screen when last "working," fan and hard drive appear to be...

Check the processor on the machine first: is it seated properly, is the cooling fan turning on it. Next, reseat all of the memory modules in the case. Finally, test the keyboard and mouse and confirm they work; try a different keyboard and mouse on the machine. Listen for any unusual noises in the case (any noises that sound out of the ordinary), try running the machine with the side panel off if possible.

Inspiron 530S won't turn off

The one method that will always work to shut down a frozen computer is to hold down the power button on the front of the computer until it turns off. When you turn it back on, it will give you an option of different startup modes, and unless it really is a serious problem, you can just go with "start Windows normally".
