Try it with another PC if available.
or, Install Linux (Ubuntu etc.) and see if it works.

Acer new 320 gb hdd not being recognized by windows 7 ultimate

Hi, There could be some issues with the files format that is on the hard drive. you said that it could be recognized by the Mac mini, and the led. I would suggest you copy the files from it to the mac mini and then try formatting it on the Windows 7 pc. Another option is that there could be a setting on the registry that you need to remove to be able to use the hard drive. - try going to regedit and then look for this string : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} : then choose the one for usb and the look for upperfilters and lowerfilters. just rightclick on it and then delete it. After the restart. you should see the hard drive.
Thank you for using Fixya. Your recommendation is highly appreciated for the free support.

I have Transcend storejet 320 GB. When I want to open my files, it's prompting me to format before I can use it. When go for formating, it stucks saying that windows was unable to complete the format

Sound like your USB hdd going to fails. Common problem causing this issue is not enough power for external HDDs. If you already attached one USB cable then you should try to use 'Y' USB cable, to give the device more power.

I want to back up my hard drive onto my Elements external drive. The computer says that the Elements 3607 does not have enough space. What do I do?

Well first of all check how many free space you have on your ext. drive. If you DO have enough to back-up your files, then i would suggest you right clicking on your ext. drive, choose properties and format it,but beware, formating will delete ALL your data on external drive.
If you think i was usefull, click on Thumbs up button, cheers!

To solve your problem, format your disk with the NTFS file system. Then, reformat the disk again with the FAT file system.

1. If your system running Windows in SATA HDD, this will not support SATA External HDD
2. Better you try low capacity HDD such as 80GB, this will support and work with your system

recording from an external hard-disk to a DMR Dear Sir or Madam, I have just purchased the DMR-BST835EG Blu-Ray Recorder, which has many attractive features. In fact, I also recommended this product to a friend of mine. My prime intention is to transfer some Internet downloaded .MKV-HD and .MP4-HD movies, presently stored on a Buffalo USB-powered external hard-disk, onto the Panasonic recorder's internal (1TB) hard-disk. However, after registering the said USB-HDD on the DMR, its driver is no longer recognized on my computer...and it has to be re-formatted via the PC, with the result that the Blu-Ray recorder again refuses to copy video files from it. What can I do? This article (the DMR) was purchased, for over EUR 600, from EBay, mainly for the above-stated purpose, repeat: copying the HD films, presently kept on external hard-disks, onto the Panasonic recorder (so as to transfer the files onto Blu-Ray discs later on). Please treat as urgent, as I would like to start using the Panasonic article accordingly, and my friend also needs this information before buying the DMR-BST835EG (too). I earnestly await your reply. Thanks in anticipation for your time and attention. Best regards, Ivan Micallef P.S.: Is there some firmware update which could enable the USB-HDD >> HDD (1 Terabyte) recording ? This is an option which should be possible, also according to the DMR's "Copy Video" menu. ; According to various website blogs, many other clients are facing the same problem - what we are askingfor is for the elimination of the USB-HDD registration request. ; Preferably, the external hard-disk accepted/recognized by the Panasonic DMR should remain in the NTFS format and not changed to the FAT32 system. Thanks again.
