Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a gas fireplace with a wall switch. Every time I turn the switch on there is a 30 or 45 second delay before the excess gas goes up in a fireball and extinguishes the pilot light. Is the gas outputs too far away from pilot light or what

The gas pressure is not stable. Either gas pressure valve is problematic, or the burner orifice is dirty and the pressure out is blocked. You can try to clean the burner orifice first.

Gas fireplace won't light

Your fireplace does have a pilot. It is either millivolt, where you manually light the pilot and use a remote or wall switch to light the logs
or is IPI where it still has a pilot light but the reote or wall switch lights the pilot first then the logs. The second version has a non-standing pilot. In either case, it sounds like a pilot assembly issue. When you "throw the switch", do you hear clicking inside the fireplace? If so and it does not light, you may have a pilot assembly issue. If there is no sound at all, then you may have a bigger issue with the control module. The only sure way to know which is the culprit is to have a certified technician come oput and examine your fireplace.

What thermostat will work for my gas fireplace?modelwh060396b 07/2006 has remote want a wall mount

A search for that model number did not yield any results. A brand name would help.
That said, if your gas fireplace has a milivolt valve with "TH" and "TP/TH" terminals on the side (for hooking up a remote, thermostat, or switch), then you can use a universal wireless wall system.
You can find wireless wall systems for gas fireplaces HERE.

How do I turn on my superior ventless fireplace

I'm not sure about that brand, but I finally figured out how to turn the one in the house I just moved into. The only visible control if you have not accessed the fireplace controls before is the switch on the wall. The wall switch is strictly an on off switch, but it only works if the pilot light is already lit, and the pilot light will not go out by turning off the wall switch. To access the controls, first pull out the vent covers, they are simply held in place with pressure buttons on each end. Behind the lower vent are the controls for the pilot light and fire intensity, mine also contained a metal plate with the instructions printed on it. Open the glass door by opening the four latches, two on top and two on bottom, and then swinging it out on its hinge. You will find the gas spout for the pilot light hidden between the logs. Turn on the main gas line by turning the straight edge of the red handle parallel with the gas line. Turn the gas control to pilot, by pushing in and turning, and then push in all the way to start gas flowing. I like to have a match already lit next to the valve when I start the gas. After the pilot light has been on for about 60 seconds let go of the button and it will return to its normal position. Then turn the control to on and turn on the wall switch, the main burners should start lighting. Close the glass and put the vent covers back in place and your ready to enjoy the fireplace :)

I have a Marco Natural Gas Direct Vent Fireplace that you turn on with a wall switch. Lately it will not light when the switch is turned on, this happens about 50% of the time. It is not the switch because...

The only thing a fireplace like your has that could be faulty is the thermocouple or safety switch on the gas valve.

A thermocouple is a likely suspect. Look in your manual for a part number and buy a replacement. Cleaning the old one might work too if it is heavily coated with carbon.

Help troubleshooting an FMI GL-850E Gas Fireplace

It sounds like the Ignition Control Module went out, as I've heard the vibrating noise you speak of just before the module "dies." You most likely have the gray Robertshaw control module box located under the fireplace connecting the power to the gas valve. You will need to have a Certified Gas Fireplace Specialist look into this issue and replace, if necessary.

Marco gas firplace

I have a Model 792864B. Before you attempt to light the pilot light - make sure that any wall control switch or remote control for the fireplace is in the off position. Locate the gas supply line. There should be a gas supply valve to turn on the gas supply. The valve is usually painted a different color than the supply line like blue, green or yellow. Open the valve by pivoting the handle to be parallel to the gas line, usually counter-clockwise. When it is closed it is at a 90 degree angle from the supply line. Locate the pilot light assembly - this is the pilot light. There should also be a red or black ignitor button and a black or green valve control knob with the words "on" "off" and "pilot" on it. It may be located inside a black box, mine is marked heatolator, that has a lift off top. Lift off the top of the box. Push in the valve control knob and turn it until the word "pilot" is in line with the arrow (my arrow is red) or indicator line. While pressing and holding in the valve control knob - it presses in about 1/4", press the red or black ignitor button repeatedly (once per second) until the pilot ignites. Once the pilot is lit, continue to hold the valve knob in for about 30 seconds and then slowly release. The pilot should remain lit. If it remains lit, press in and turn the valve control knob to the "on" position. The on/off wall or remote control switch should now light your fireplace. If the pilot doesn't ignite, turn off gas supply valve, wait about 5 minutes and try it again.
