Question about ViewSonic VT2430 LCD TV

1 Answer

I have a viewsonic N3235W TV. No picture or sound. Power light turns blue and stays blue but there is nothing that shows on the screen. I've visually inspected all capacitors and they show no signs of bulging or other problems. Capacitors are all I've ever replaced when fixing LCD TVs because the problem is usually in the power board but I don't think so in this case. Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply. Here's more. TV is out of warranty. I do not want to send it to a shop because I can spend slightly more that the repair costs for a new TV. As for this TV (Viewsonic N3235W) I have replaced the bulging capacitors on the power board but this did not solve the problem so what other power board issues can there be that I might be able to take on? I know that I can buy a replacement power board for about $80.00 but I just want to be absolutly sure that this will fix the problem.

OK. Just so you know I can get this power board from for about $80.00 and $60.00 from I've heard that shopjimmy is good. I just want to reiterate that I get no picture or sound but the power indicator light stays blue which indicates that the tv is on. Just want to make sure this isn't a problem with the inverter board or T-con board. Thanks.

Thanks for your advice, Tim. I really appreciate it. I will probably take a chance with buying a new power board. I have 3 different web sites to choose from and each allows returns so I can't get in too much trouble. Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a failed or at least failing power supply / power board inside the TV. Unfortunately this is a very difficult repair, and unless you are an electrician I would not recommend attempting it. You can test the voltage output from the power supply if you wish... that will show if it is indeed the culprit which I think it is. If you don't want to mess with that you will want to contact a local TV repair person in your area if you are sure this is out of warranty, more on that in a bit here. This is actually the most common problem with this type of TV, I see it every day, it just happens - sometimes with new TVs and sometimes it takes many years for it to happen.

If you think it may still be under warranty please contact the manufacturer to file an RMA. If you happened to purchase the TV with a major credit card (not a debit card) there is a good chance it may still be under the free extended warranty most credit cards place on electronics. Please contact your credit card company to inquire if they do this, and they will be able to file the claim and get you a refund for the TV.

If you want to attempt the repair yourself please let me know and I will get you the part number and a place you can purchase it from for what you need.

So sorry that I don't have better news but it is definitely a power issue internally. Please reply to my answer here with any questions or comments and I can help you for sure...

There are really no other things you can check or do yourself on the power board aside from testing the voltage coming out of it to verify it is not the correct voltage... For $80 that is a steal of a deal to get a power board. If you get it from wherever your source is, can you return it if need be? I am quite confident it will fix the issue but hate to say for 100% that it is the culprit. If anything you could buy it and if you end up not needing it somehow you could sell it for $80 easily on ebay, usually the power board goes for a good bit more from what I have seen so you might even make money on the deal :).

Thanks, let me know if you have any questions or concerns, just reply to my answer here and I will be right back with you.

I would say it sounds like the power for sure to me, but can't be 100% sure. I wish was still around, not sure what happened to them, you could return this and get a full refund on any item through them...

I am very confident though it is the power, if you want to be absolutely certain you will want to check with a local repair shop, but obviously that is going to cost more than any restocking fee on an $80 item...

There is sound but no video on my N3235w, it was working fine when this just happen sudenly.

Depends what you mean by no video.
If the screen is white and washed out, it could be your T-Con board.
If the screen is black, turn the lights off in the room and look for any glow from the screen. If you see glowing, then the backlight is working and your problem is the video/main board.
Shine a flashlight or other strong light on the screen to see if you see any faint images in the screen, if you see images, then your backlight circuit is gone.

I have a viewsonic n3235w and it wont dsiplay picture when connected to sony network media player. Sony logo is displayed but then tv switches to 1080i and screen goes black. Any suggestions?

Set your Sony Media player to output only in 1080i or 720P output mode. If that doen't work and if your Sony supports Component hook-up, use that instead (Blue, Green, Red Video and seperate Audio).
